We installed this ourselves. We had skirting already in the house, so the floors were installed and scotia used to cover the gaps. Personally .... I'm no fan of scotia when there is a gorgeous skirting to cover it. It also makes it hard to get furniture close to walls etc. By rights, the skirting should have been put on AFTER the floors were laid. But then it becomes a catch 22 .... because 10 years down the track, once you have had kids and the kids have trashed your wood and you have sanded them back a couple of times (if you can with those, not sure) you will want to replace them and that means pulling all those skirtings up and starting again. What colour is the scotia? Re: Kelsey78’s Home in Honeywood DAH Build-Flooring Freak Ou 584Feb 25, 2015 5:07 pm Hi Kelsey, I was going to say the same thing! I think because the skirtings were put on first there is no avoiding the scotia.. the skirting should have been done last so it sits on top of the wood!!! I hope you ca sort it out with Dales... that must be extremely frustrating!!!!! By the way I LOVE your floors.... they look gorgeous!!! Can't wait to see them all finished! It's a shame about the skirting drama. I wondered why they had installed the skirting so long ago! I don't think it looks bad with both. The white looks nice on Hooties pic. I'd go with meelz suggestion and request a white scotia. Doesn't seem like it would be right.... But no one had ever mentioned scotia and the skirting! Strange. Hopefully they are going to be slotting something in there? Is it all the way around the flooring in every spot like that!!? Re: Kelsey78’s Home in Honeywood DAH Build-Flooring Freak Ou 590Feb 26, 2015 10:39 am Thank you everyone for your support and feedback! We defiantly thought to ourselves why would they install the skirting first. But we have never built before so we weren’t sure if it was common practice. The did leave about 15mm between the slab and where the skirting started so we thought maybe the timber gets pushed under. Hootie Can you request for white scotia to go against your white skirting? I defiantly do like the white scotia better but it’s still not what we asked for. Dewish Is it all the way around the flooring in every spot like that!!? Unfortunately they have left the gap along the skirting everywhere so far! I guess it’s good that they are going so slow because at least there won’t be much to change, only the kitchen and entry hallway. enough of the bad stuff... a good thing that happened yesterday was our stolen cabinetry and basin were finally replaced oh and here is another sneak peak photo of the flooring! Me too!! Our Honeywood Build hi Kelsey, that timber is amazing! is it Bj's big river spotted Gum? I would love that if we could afford it! Close They are Bj's Big River Blackbutt. I would have loved to go with Spotted Gum but the OH didn't like the pink tones that can sometimes be through the wood. Meelz Your floors look so gorgeous!! Cant wait to see the finished product Me neither!!! I swear these timber layers are the slowest!! what they have done in 4 days I have seen done in 1. I think i'm just impatient because I just cant wait to see the finished product. This is one of those big ticket expenses I've been dying to see since choosing it!. Our CLO says it will be to discuss our outstanding issues and ease our minds going forward to PCI.... Im not convinced, what needs to be said 2 days before we meet again for PCI?! I think our SS will be giving us an ultimatum... something along the lines of if you want the timber to be corrected you will have to delay PCI. He's threatened us before like that saying if we don't pay a progress payment for the roof cover (prior to it being completed) then he wont be organizing the next trade. Fingers crossed PCI is not delayed. I have already started booking trades and a moving truck for handover! At least they know something isn't right and they have acknowledged that you're not happy. Fingers crossed it is a good meeting and that your floors will be perfect! I had a thought with your floors... Have they maybe left the gap and wanting to put scotia trimming down to allow for swelling of the wood floors? I don't know a lot about it but I'm a property manager and see a lot of wood style floors end up separating or swelling and lifting from the change in weather and I think they have to leave a gap because of that? Yours might be different though! My fingers are crossed for you for everything to go on time as planned!! x Building our first home - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73568 Re: Kelsey78’s Home in Honeywood DAH Build-Flooring Freak Ou 597Feb 28, 2015 5:50 pm Meelz is right they do have to leave expansion gaps with wood, a space of between 10 and 15mm is usually the required amount. In saying that though that is why skirting is usually done after flooring as it sits on top and covers the gaps between the floor and the wall. Flooring is looking great Kelsey and even with the scotia will still look fantastic Re: Kelsey78’s Home in Honeywood DAH Build-Flooring Freak Ou 598Feb 28, 2015 9:30 pm Just thought I'd tell you how lovely your flooring looks. Will you be having skirting on the left hand side too? I agree they should have put skirting on last but white scotia will look fab too! Your home is looking great, good luck to you both! Re: Kelsey78’s Home in Honeywood DAH Build-Flooring Freak Ou 599Mar 02, 2015 10:16 pm All the best with the week ahead Kelsey! A very big week for you.. I am sure Wednesday will be fine, fingers crossed for you Re: Kelsey78’s Home in Honeywood DAH Build-Flooring Freak Ou 600Mar 03, 2015 6:33 am Floors look great Kelsey Definitely need to think about the expansion, movement in the wood. Colour matched white scotia looks good and will be a good compromise. Frustration though when you're told one thing and given something completely different. Either way your place is looking great and not long now... Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense.
