Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 17, 2014 5:09 pm Hello guys, I'm issy and I'm still new to this (second post) haha.. I have questions about timber flooring! I'm building with new generation and they said carpet call provides for them when their customers want timber flooring done for their house.. 1. Do we have to go with carpet call? We've email our home consultant and he said we had to email the finance advisor, but she hasn't gotten back to us.. So I thought we'd ask people here since everybody is so lovely Also our flooring allowances is approx. $7800 but for an upgrade to universal spotted gum (2strip) timber flooring (entrance, living/dining, theatre, pathway to beds 2,3,4) and better carpets (bed 1,2,3,4 and study) it is an extra $7160.. 2. I just wanna know whether I'm getting a good price for timber, I really wanted 1strip, and walnut timber, but I don't mine spotted gum because it's got a great and way higher janka rating.. So all together for timber we spent it's approx $11,000 for the 2 strip spotted gum.. Worth it? Not? 3. Can anybody recommend any other timber suppliers that is better? My MIL said that she went with Trevor's carpet supplies.. At the end of the day, I want to do things right the first time around, so help me out, thanks Building: The Maxum Builder: New Generation Homes Estate: Springtime Estate, Xavier ____________________________ Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73924 Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 2Mar 17, 2014 7:25 pm If flooring is included in your contract, to my knowledge, you have to use a supplier approved by your builder. eg. we had the choice of 4 tiling companies and had to choose from them. If Carpet Call is the only recommended supplier you will need to go with them or change your contract so that you are organizing the flooring after handover (if that is possible - it might be too late). Good luck. Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 3Mar 17, 2014 11:21 pm Thanks joyful builder for the reply Well flooring wasn't included in the specifications.. So we had to pay for our flooring as extras.. We've signed with carpet call but because we haven't done ore start yet people kept telling me that I should keep researching timber suppliers Building: The Maxum Builder: New Generation Homes Estate: Springtime Estate, Xavier ____________________________ Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=73924 Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 4Mar 17, 2014 11:30 pm Are they supplying solid timber or engineered flooring? You could try Chelsea flooring as they quoted me a very good price http://www.chelseaflooring.com.au/ 101 Residential in Burns Beach viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67711 Shire Approval 31.12.13 Slab Down 15.02.14 Moved in 14.10.14 Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 5Mar 18, 2014 12:10 am I'm pretty sure it's engineered R34, is yours solid? Less convienient to go solid but it is my preference 101 Residential in Burns Beach viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67711 Shire Approval 31.12.13 Slab Down 15.02.14 Moved in 14.10.14 Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 7Mar 18, 2014 3:10 pm Thanks for the link R34 - I will check them out myself. I think timber look tiles would probably be the best wearing and easiest to clean (although very exxy) - but I'd rather real wood because of kids and the daily falling over (wood seems softer than tiles). Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 8Mar 18, 2014 10:10 pm According to the person dealing with our finance, she said we could go find quotes from other flooring companies! YAY! let the search for the best deals begin yerh i grew up with tiles and i think that timber's the way to go, just has more pros than cons IMO.. I dont have kids yet but i cant stand the grout when it gets dirty thanks R34, i will check them out this weekend most companies have 25-30 year warranties right? could you tell me the difference between engineered and solid? Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 10Mar 19, 2014 10:53 am That is great news. I think if you go for a high gloss finish, it will look worn quicker. Where as a matte of semi-gloss finish will look good for longer. Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 11Mar 20, 2014 12:29 am Agree with the gloss thing, that is more high maintenance than a matt finish as it shows up all the dust. The problem I have with laminate is that it appears to be soft so it dents and scuffs quite easily, but that could just be a quality issue, there may be better laminates out there. Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 12Apr 13, 2014 7:37 pm Thanks guys, I just got a quote from a friend of a friend.. For readyflor spotted gum one strip.. It's suppose to be the best engineered timber flooring.. But herb the quote was $125 supply and install.. Is that cheap guys? I mean it's a bit more than I expected but I'm willing to pay for quality.. I have just been at Mandurah Flooring Xtra and Spotted Gum one strip was $110m2, plus $6m2 to upgrade the underlay to rubber instead of foam. (fully installed with matching beading) Another place, ABC Blinds, was around $140-$150m2 for one strip. 3 strip was ranging from $85-$95m2 at both places. Re: Questions about timber flooring in Perth 14May 19, 2014 10:43 pm R34 Are they supplying solid timber or engineered flooring? You could try Chelsea flooring as they quoted me a very good price http://www.chelseaflooring.com.au/ Hi there R34, After seeing this comment I thought I would check out Chelsea Flooring over the weekend. Of all the places I went to, their quote was easily the most expensive, but I thought their product was also the best. I was quoted $177 per sqm for 12x86mm solid spotted gum timber floorboards, installed, with moisture barriers and three layers of a satin finish coating. That price is not inclusive of beading or skirting. Just curious if that is comparable with the quote you received. Thanks Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15924 Personally, considering your layout (study/work desks in bedrooms), I don't think you have any other option but to leave NW windows and make them as big as possible e.g.… 7 10485 We had this happen to us last year and got charged a variation.
