Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 13, 2014 2:46 pm I am meant to choose my bricks tomorrow for our new house, and I am stuck between the Jarrah and the Orient (boral), I'm wondering if anyone has some finished product photos they can show me? Is there much difference between them? One person said they were essentially the same, but Jarrah had more texture, not sure if thats correct? Rhiannon Re: Jarrah vs Orient bricks - help! 2Mar 13, 2014 3:06 pm I built with Boral Orient, which I much preferred the look of over Jarrah. They look quite different built. I found that Orient have more of that traditional red brick clinker look which is what I was after - very happy with how it looks. Don't have a pic handy but can hunt one up for you. Re: Jarrah vs Orient bricks - help! 3Mar 13, 2014 4:32 pm Hi I'm choosing bricks too. yesterday I just checked out a double storey house that was built with Jarrah... too too too red for me. I wouldn't go for Jarrah personally but I guess if you are building a single storey it would look a bit better than a double storey with Jarrah bricks. Did you ask Boral to give you some addresses that you can have a look? Re: Jarrah vs Orient bricks - help! 4Mar 13, 2014 6:13 pm Thanks guys, I think we are leaning more towards the Orient as it's probably not quite as red of the two. We are building single story, the Cosgrove by DFH. If anyone else has picks of either please share! Rhiannon Re: Jarrah vs Orient bricks - help! 7Mar 14, 2014 6:57 am I'm looking at brick choices ATM too and I have been leaning toward the Jarrah, but haven't looked much at the orient. Our colour consultant seems to be hopeless with advice on red bricks. She keeps telling me to go for mocha or barwon even though I've told her several times they're too brown for my liking. She didn't even mention the orient. Off to to stalk some more pics now. Our build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=69984 If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. Re: Jarrah vs Orient bricks - help! 8Mar 14, 2014 7:00 am I thought I'd add a couple of pics I took yesterday of houses with Jarrah bricks. Not the best photos as I took them through my car window! I really liked the second house and didn't think they looked too red because of the mottling with the brown through them. Jarrah vs Orient bricks - help! 10Mar 14, 2014 8:00 am The Boral brick guide doesn't give an accurate representation of the colour unfortunately. They do have some walls on display out at their centre in Melbourne and you can get brick samples from them as well. They gave me a list of addresses of recent projects done in the types of brick I was looking at so it was pretty easy to decide (there were examples close by which was lucky). Mortar colour makes a big difference to the overall look as well. Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Re: Jarrah vs Orient bricks - help! 11Mar 14, 2014 10:37 am Only based on this picture, Gypse Rose seems ok to me. I went to see some houses built with Red Blend (Daniel Robertson), Rouge (Boral) and Orient (Boral), none of them is the one that I wanted and pictured in my mind. I think I'm driving myself nuts. Re: Jarrah vs Orient bricks - help! 12Mar 14, 2014 6:07 pm Thanks so much to you all for your replies. We went out to Boral again today before our appointment, and after looking at the Jarrah and Orient, we ended up choosing the Brushwood! A bit different to the others, still on the reddish scheme (when you compare it to the brown bricks). We went for a drive and looked at a house in the Brushwood, and really liked it. We also picked the off white mortar to go with it. Rhiannon Re: Jarrah vs Orient bricks - help! 13Mar 14, 2014 6:24 pm Now I need to go look at the brushwood some more! it's so confusing!
