Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 10, 2014 3:01 pm The standard brick choice with red ink is the two course. While I'm not a huge fan, I think it looks quite nice in the lighter brick colours. I'm just wondering if anyone has used both single and double in the build of a house, or seen it done? Does it look strange? It occurred to me today that the option of using a lighter brick up to sill level and then going up to ceiling height in a darker (maybe reddish) brick might work. To change from double height brick to single is going to cost us $12500, so I'm wondering if I can minimise the pain. Re: two course and single brick combinations 2Mar 10, 2014 3:19 pm normally you would use the single course at the lower levels, and 2 course above. the 2 course bricks are 90mm wide and single course are 110mm, so the thicker bricks would go at the top. How would render price in? cheaper than the single course I would think? Re: two course and single brick combinations 3Mar 10, 2014 3:30 pm after posting this, I did think about the render option tim_k, and likely that this would be a cheaper option. Thanks for the info, actually thought that the 2 course bricks would be wider, so that changes things quite a bit Re: two course and single brick combinations 4Mar 14, 2014 12:25 am I came across a house today with red single course bricks up to sill level followed by two course limestone up to eaves. It looked great!! Will be chasing up my SC to see if we can add this to the already over extended budget. Have look at your house plans and you will probably find that brick articulation joint has been missed.
