Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2014 4:59 pm Howdy all, So i have an issue with my floor plan that i'm not sure how to resolve. This is the floor plan: Now the biggest issue is i hate that you can see straight into the master from the living/kitchen area. The other minor dislike is the shower recess is a little pokey. I've thrown around a few ideas and the most workable seams to be relocating one of the robes, so the entry is more of a corridor IE this But i'm not so sure if it will seam strange with having the robes in different locations. I just think that there's a whole another layout to the master/ensuite which would work a bit better - though i can not for the life of me think of it! Any suggestions? Re: Tweak my master/ensuite/robe layout 5Mar 09, 2014 6:27 pm i must say that i like how it was on the first plan. because the door is to the side Re: Tweak my master/ensuite/robe layout 6Mar 09, 2014 7:20 pm I have to agree that I like the original plan too. I had that exact ensuite layout in my last house and must say the shower size was fine Quite like your mod too so I'm not much help 101 Residential in Burns Beach viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67711 Shire Approval 31.12.13 Slab Down 15.02.14 Moved in 14.10.14 Re: Tweak my master/ensuite/robe layout 7Mar 09, 2014 8:16 pm R34 I have to agree that I like the original plan too. If only you couldn't see straight into the bedroom. Ideally if it was flipped so the entry was to the other side it would be perfect, but there's a nice sliding door to the backyard off the bedroom, so that wouldn't work at all. Re: Tweak my master/ensuite/robe layout 8Mar 09, 2014 9:18 pm It is a pretty small angle to see through to the master. Probably not big enough to worry about. But, if you think it will annoy you, then it probably will once its built. I dont think the separate robes is too bad. Re: Tweak my master/ensuite/robe layout 9Mar 09, 2014 9:22 pm Actually if you had the master door open the opposite way, ie towards the bed instead of the wall, then you'd block any view to the bedroom if the door was left open. Kind of like how all the older house designs had the door open that way, I think the idea was to block seeing in from a hallway etc. Your room is big enough so that it wouldn't get in the way. Re: Tweak my master/ensuite/robe layout 10Mar 09, 2014 10:34 pm Could you move the door to the entry of the doorway? Your plan is amazing btw!! Our master bedroom door is straight off out living area (not even hidden like yours) and even with the door open all you can see of our bedroom is our draws, ours is set out similar to that image. I wonder how much of you room you would be able to see with the little corridor type entrance. I'm am guessing there isn't a display so you can see what it's like in real life? Re: Tweak my master/ensuite/robe layout 11Mar 10, 2014 8:55 am I like building the dream's idea of hanging the door on the opposite side. and fmac's idea is good too. You could make that little entry way a cavity slider and then it doesn't matter what your bedroom door is doing, you can just close the cavity slider from the living room. I think the problem with your altered pic is that unless that wardrobe opposite the door is kept perfectly neat and always closed, you won't see your bed from the kitchen but you will be looking straight at the clothes in the wardrobe from the living room. Personally, I'm more likely to keep my bed and surrounds cleaner then my wardrobe area but others may be different. I also agree with fmac that once you're in there, you probably really won't be able to see much of the room anyway. Do you have the dimensions? I could make a model of that little hallway for you if you wanted. I did a super quick model based on your floor plan and here is basically what you would see. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ edit: just realised doing that that also that 'entry way' is actually much wider then a normal door. so you could even just make it the size of a normal doorway and move it as close to that little cupboard as you can and then you can see even less with the door fully open. Works best with the smaller entryway. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is the most you would see into the bedroom. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You could have anything in there. Extra wardrobe, bookshelves, any other storage you like really. I guess it depends on what furniture you'd have in your master if the robe extension would be possible or not, but the dimensions seem spacey to allow that option. Another alternative is just to keep the door closed at all times if you don't want to make changes and you don't want to view into the room. Re: Tweak my master/ensuite/robe layout 16Mar 10, 2014 11:52 am Hi elemist, Heaps of great ideas here. I think the cheapest would be to reverse the door swing as building the dream suggested. Next would be to include the cavity slider as imille32 suggested. Great sketch up models by the way. Yes, you could extend the robe but we all know how builders like to charge for any changes and additional joinery is often $$$. The door swing should be able to be changed with a minimum of fuss. Just remember to relocate any light switches that may end up behind the door. Good luck with it all. Cheers, Jenny. Need hints, tips and inspiration?
