And the house is looking terrific Thanks! Our build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=69984 If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. Re: CountryHome's country build PAGE 9 - so much progress RO 202Dec 03, 2014 12:23 pm Gosh, I've been slack at updating in here. So the plasterboard (is it called grey float?) has gone up and bricks are coming along, albeit a little slowly. Rain today so I'm sure that will delay them a bit more. When I popped in for a sticky beak on Sunday, they had all the internal doors there ready to be hung this week. Not too many dramas, although the cabinet maker called me on Monday to tell me the handles I want aren't made any more and when I can get in to pick out some new ones? Me: I am coming in to town (remember that I live 65km from the closest regional centre where all these trades are based) on Thursday, I can try and find time then to see you. Him: oh, you can't come in sooner? I hope they will arrive the next day as I need them next week. Me: well, why are they just getting ordered now? I chose these back in preselection in June. Him: yes, but I only got the paper work for the job 4-5 weeks ago. Me: (fuming)... And again I ask, why are they only being ordered now then? I've been in to see you about the job twice in that time. You know I live 40 mins away, have a toddler and am now 36 weeks pregnant!? Him: yes. Well. Ok, I'll see you on Thursday then? Grr. Anyway, they're just the handles, surely he can start the job without the handles? I'm not making a rushed decision over the phone due to their stuff up. I'm trying to get all my post handover/pre moving in jobs organised down so I'm not doing them with a newborn. Tomorrow I'm going in to try and organise window dressings. I think I'm going to get block out roller blinds throughout the house, and then I'll have a think about what else I want once we move in. I might get sheer curtains or privacy blinds added at a later date. I just don't want to move in with two kids and be trying to pin curtains or temp blinds up. I'm also going to try and organise my robe fit outs tomorrow, as I had them taken out of the contract. I have no idea what I want though. I'm not sure where to look to get inspiration either. I've tried Pinterest, but they're all totally OTT, unrealistic pics of WIRs made for millionaires. Hmmm.. Any suggestions? I don't think I have many pics to update, I've been a bit slack with taking them. Will see what I've got and update. Re: CountryHome's country build PAGE 9 - so much progress RO 203Dec 03, 2014 12:25 pm Only this one of the bricks from a week or more ago now. I'll take some more pics ASAP and update. Re: CountryHome's country build PAGE 9 - so much progress RO 204Dec 03, 2014 1:31 pm Plasterboard is plasterboard. Sometime Gyprock (brand of plasterboard). I don't think we get grey or white float here on the eastern sea board. I think it's a WA specific thing where they render the walls? 36 weeks! wow anytime now I hear you about the grrrrrrrrr'ing! Stupid process when you have to choose so early and then they don't put it aside / pre order it. We were not impressed with our options so asked for them to be left off and we'd select our own. As for robes I'd just look at the designer's sites for BIR which should have some idea of drawer/shoe etc combos. Maybe look at IKEA for inspiration of what you can do? Re: CountryHome's country build PAGE 9 - so much progress RO 205Dec 03, 2014 2:07 pm yvonneh Plasterboard is plasterboard. Sometime Gyprock (brand of plasterboard). I don't think we get grey or white float here on the eastern sea board. I think it's a WA specific thing where they render the walls? Ah, thanks! I've seen the term used on here and I even tried googling it, without much success. The SS was calling it plaster (or plasterboard, I can't remember), but I don't see the term used as much on here so was getting myself all confused. I feel like such a dunce at this whole building thing most of the time! My step brother was here on the weekend and he has just moved in to his newly built house so was keen to go have a look at our progress. I was explaining about how along the front was all going to be verandah and he was like "ah, there's no roof?" I hadn't even noticed!! but I went back over all my plans and contracts and it looks like the verandah roof is flatter and not part of the original roofline, so must get added at a later date. Man, it gave me a heart attack though. It made me feel like there could be so many other things wrong that I haven't noticed really hoping our builder lives up to their great reputation and everything is ok. Yes, great idea. I'm not keen at all to DIY, given everything else we have happening and how un handy we are, but I will look at the ikea website for inspiration. Thanks. Re: CountryHome's country build PAGE 9 - so much progress RO 208Dec 03, 2014 7:53 pm Wow I am super impressed! Just been catching up with all the updates, it all seems to be happening super fast. We have wire shelving etc from IKEA in our walk in robe. Plastic bucket draws for the heavier stuff. We will use the same for our new place, very happy with them. Plastic bucket draws for the heavier stuff. We will use the same for our new place, very happy with them. It all seems to happen at once and then it slows up. The brick work has definitely slowed progress. Although, given my current state, I'm ok with that! Thanks for the comments everyone.. Always nice to know people are reading and I'm not just yabbering to myself (although, I'd keep on yabbering anyway). CountryHome's country build PAGE 9 - so much progress ROOF! 210Dec 06, 2014 5:36 am So I had a very productive day while DS was in daycare on Thursday and I went and saw a few places re roller blinds and robes. A couple of the quotes have already come back via email, it seems the blinds will be cheaper than I had expected but the robes might be dearer. Will have to print off the quotes and sit down with the budget calculator this weekend to work out what we can do! After all my stressing about robe design, I might end up going for something quite simple and changing the shelving around at a later date. I also got in to see the cabinet maker and am happy with the new door knobs I have chosen for the bathroom. They will match the kitchen now, so it's probably good to have some uniformity anyway. And while I was there I got to see my cabinets! So in love with my moulded panels for the kitchen!! Obviously, a couple of doors are missing and they need handles, but you can see the basic idea. They're just what I wanted! So excited. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm 36 weeks pregnant now and finding it hard to get the energy to walk to the block a few times a week like I was doing, so still no updated pics of the brickwork. I'll get down there this weekend and hopefully I'll be able to get some pics of progress inside too. It's been at lock up for awhile but there's usually a door open or something (got to love country living). DS and the dogs love it. The schnauzer even left his first deposit don't worry, I picked it up, did not want tradies walking that through the house. Re: CountryHome's country build page 11 cabinetry has begun. 218Dec 07, 2014 4:46 am MyH1Login Oh my.. I have kitchen envy! I love following your thread, it has the modern country things I'd love to have ️ living through you. Your garage is huge! Aw, thank you! This is lovely. I know the country/provincial theme isn't for everyone, but I feel like it's less likely to date and seems to make so much more sense in my little town. I sometimes look at the ultra modern kitchens or the industrial themed decorating and get a bit jealous too! We can't have everything I guess. Yes, garage has been expanded to a 2.5 car garage so we can either keep both cars in there with room to open doors, or one car and a heap of junk Treeseachanger You can get the feel of it already, it's going to be beautiful! Thank you! I hope so! I think it will blow our budget a fair bit so it might look a bit odd with our current mismatched furniture until we can afford to upgrade, but hoping in 1-2 years it will look beautiful! Melsie68 I love the country look homes . Your kitchen is going to look amazing . 36 weeks pregnant not long now .how exciting .goodluck . Thank you. I'm very excited about the kitchen. It's probably the room I spend the most amount of time in (I love cooking). Yes, the countdown is on. I'll have to do another bump pic soon.
