Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our house build - Brick Stage 62Aug 07, 2008 8:16 am Sounds like they are short of brickies.I can't believe you are still waiting to start. Hope you get something happening soon. Re: Our house build - Brick Stage 63Aug 07, 2008 7:50 pm hi made a mistake on my post, we've been waiting 4 weeks not 3 weeks!!! Now I feel really peeved!!
I sent a complaint to them today, very diplomatic but letting them know that I was unhappy and dissapointed. She called me straight away to say that 4 weeks wasn't a long time to wait and that it was because the brickies are still on the last job which is running two weeks late. She made no apologies and reassurancies, she just blamed the bad weather. She also said that the nearly two full palettes of the cement that was taken from our block was by the brickies that were going to be doing our house and that they needed it for the job they are still on. She said they should be finishing up and could even be on site tomorrow. Now after I got off the phone to her I realsed, why the hell would they need that much cement if they are just finishing up!!! She said they are working on a house nearby, I have their license plate number so I will track them down and find out how much of this house is really left to do Lloyd Re: Our house build - Brick Stage 64Aug 08, 2008 11:22 am Hi Lloyd...sorry to hear about all of the delays
I know how frustrating it is and by the sounds of it your builder has the same communication skills as ours.....if you do manage to get hold of anyone then it,s just blah blah blah....the only way to get their attention unfortunately is to really kick up a stink...do a Gordon Ramsay if all else fails How dare they come and take your cement for someone elses job!!!!!!!!! We had to wait 6 weeks from the slab going down to them starting the frame Got to give the tradies credit though...the weather has been awful lately and they have still been working on our house...they put the ground floor windows in a couple of days ago ..it was about 4 deg. with torrential rain How long do they think the brickwork will take? Fingers crossed that they start real soon Cheers Mel Building on 9 acres Re: Our house build - Brick Stage 65Aug 09, 2008 1:23 pm thanks Mel,
well the email of complaint I sent them on thursday must have had some affect because friday morning they had started and they also said they were going to work saturday aswell better late than never Hopefully they'll beable to make up some time, the brickies themselves seem like really good guys I will take some pictures today and post them up Lloyd Re: Our house build - Brick Stage 67Aug 09, 2008 5:51 pm We went through a similar wait between slab and bricks, but a lot of people told me that the longer the slab has to dry out the better it is, especially here in Perth where double brick gets thrown on the top. It's also good to get a bit of rain on it to stop it cracking. You are on the way now though and the weather looks a lot better! Re: Our house build - Brick Stage 68Aug 11, 2008 9:12 pm Ok then here is the progress after two days of brick laying
Garage Back Wall left side of house start of back wall here is an example of the brick work, now I have noticed deep cuts in many of the bricks, almost like they started to cut the brick and then changed there mind, they were like this on the pallettes. I don't really like it but I'm not sure if I can say anything. The only thing they can do is rip it all down and start again. What do you think? This is one of the outside course of bricks from the inside. It will be covered up by the internal bricks, I probably shouldn't complain about this one either? Lloyd Hi Kristy Around $1.7-1.8m or around $4,600/sqm. if you PM me your email I will send you a break up in a spreadsheet so you can get an understanding of the costs for… 1 9980 Not unless you have managed to put it as a special condition into the contract somehow. 1 6157 The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn. Just the way it is. 1 8711 |
