Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 06, 2014 8:26 am I know it might be a little early to start adding to the new build forum,, but I am soooo excited that we have signed and we don't have to go through any more display homes for the purpose of builder selection
So here is our third draft of our design. Still needs tweaking http://s1317.photobucket.com/user/forsy ... sort=3&o=0 Anyway we are going to be building in Darling Downs on 2.2 acres. Will get a photo uploaded soon. It's currently got three horses running around on it so there hasn't been much opportunity to stand on it and breath in the views and the country air The road is built, the power is in, bring on settlement -due at the end of march Any other red inkers in the area? Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 3Mar 06, 2014 2:11 pm Hi xxkatxx, it is a big house. Bigger than what we though it was going to be and more $$ than we wanted it to be. But you get that on the big jobs. Any feedback on design would be appreciated. We already have a few things that will be changed. Laundry door for one. We currently have a slider and its a nightmare Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 5Mar 06, 2014 4:55 pm Hi there, Another Redink customer here, posting to follow. Wow that sure is a massive house you're building there! I would hate to be one who has to clean it... I need to spend a bit of time dissecting the plan before I have anything useful to say. One question straight up, did you consider two storey rather than a large single storey? Would certainly give you a bigger backyard. Although considering you are building in Darling Downs, you probably have a massive block anyway. Very exciting, will follow this one with keen interest Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 7Mar 06, 2014 5:29 pm Wow that's a massive house. Looks really good ... the only thing I would say is that it's a long way from the garage into the main house if it's raining. Maybe an extra bit of veranda from that back garage door around to the laundry? And it's always easy to spend more money My house alone ended up costing as much as I wanted to spend on the house and site works/septics. Ooopsie ... We were going to do extra paving from garage to laundry. I'd like to have additional verandahs but not sure how that will affect light into the ancillary side, will look into it. That part of the house faces to the south. We contemplated double storey for all of two minutes lol. Need the roof space for water harvesting as no scheme water. We are going to need a 230kl rainwater tank. This will be positioned behind the second garage. Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 9Mar 06, 2014 9:30 pm Bit hard to get away from a long hallway when you have four kids lol Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 12Mar 07, 2014 12:03 am A bit of floor polish and you could slide down it ... Love the corner door out to alfresco! One of our favourite features we saw in displays, but couldn't seem to make it work for us. We're also with RI. Our plans are currently in drafting and we're hoping to get to prestart by end of April so I bet we'll be on a similar timeline. Good luck! Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 14Mar 07, 2014 1:21 pm We love the corner door too, a bit pricey but will be worth it. I also had bifolds with stone bench extension on kitchen window but really couldn't justify the $$7k bifolds and would rather allocate to something a bit more useful even thou they are gorgeous. Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 15Mar 07, 2014 2:53 pm Yep I'm sure you'll find somewhere else to spend the $$$ The stackers will look amazing, and despite the cool look of the bi folds, I think stackers are more practical. We added them into our plan, then took them away, added, removed, etc. At the moment I think they're out. We'll see what prestart bill comes to and if there's enough left in our prestart allowance it's at the top of my upgrade list. It all adds up so quickly doesn't it?! The guest flat is brilliant by the way. Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 16Mar 07, 2014 9:47 pm I think we'll be adding things removing things continuously until we're told to firm up plans otherwise it will never get built We are very happy with the guest accom. Still need to reconfigure the guest bathroom as not really happy with the layout. The kitchen has just had a makeover, with all the bells and whistles plus stone bentch tops. It was really important that the guest accommodation didn't look like a granny flat (if you know what I mean ). The guest accom is for my parents and it still needed just the right amount of bling so that it still feels like a natural progression from the main house. We see our sales consultant tomorrow night to have another crack at refining the design. One step closer hey. Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 17Mar 08, 2014 4:15 pm ok, so as promised here is 'The block' photo. Probably took more of the electrical box than really needed, but that's what happens when things develop on your piece of paradise. I'm starting to understand why people take photo's of the first tap http://s1317.photobucket.com/user/forsy ... 2.jpg.html Our house is based on the frontage of the Urban Outlook, although we've removed more of the urban and turned it back into the country, with double gutted verandahs. Ignore the blue panelling at the front. Still working on what to do with the theatre frontage. Happy to keep the finials, but not sure whether to render to the ceiling height and then do stained timber cladding. Sandstone corners? A bit of head scratching going on here ....would love your thoughts http://s1317.photobucket.com/user/forsy ... 4.jpg.html Re: building with red ink Darling Downs 19Mar 15, 2014 9:51 am Posting to follow Looks great! Is the whole property fenced?
I’m restoring all my 40yr old windows and I want to install seals around the casements. I’ve sanded back and oiled the frames with sikkens. My plan is to box up inside… 0 6522 go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110592 |
