Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 03, 2014 4:15 pm Our Frame and top floor particle board subflooring were delivered to site 10th December. The frame and flooring were erected on 28th January. It is now 3rd March. So this particle board flooring has been out in the weather for 12 weeks. Any idea if the rain / weather will affect the flooring? are we likely to have creaky floors? Anyone else have this issue? We are also a bit worried about the frame sitting in the weather too. Especially with the rain we have had lately. We have had a look at the site after some of the rain and it has been like a flood in the bottom floor, an inch or so of water over the slab. Our bricking is underway, bottom floor complete, but no sign of roofing yet. Are there likely to be any long term effects of the weather on the frame and flooring? Re: Particle Board Subfloor - Weather Proof? 2Sep 14, 2014 1:26 am Hi SheridanBenjamin, Cornellengineers is right I principle, but if the builder has not built the floor quite level so that the water pooled for long periods of time than swelling can often exceed the maximum deterioration permitted by the manufacturer of 2 or 2.5mm. If this swelling parameter is exceeded then you have a defect in my opinion and I think the cure is to replace the flooring. I believe the only way that flooring can withstand 3 months of out in the weather is for very little rain to land on it or for the pooling to be swept off daily, best more often than that based on a few jobs I have inspected. Hope this helps but possibly too late to tell. Leonardo_23 Jimbo73 I would use heaps of adhesive on each sheet and screw rather than nail. use as many as you like cheers Simeon 1 4074 XCEM Alpha flooring seems to relatively new and I could not found any reviews. Have you or someone you know have used it and would recommend over other subfloor options?… 2 7597 Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors. Thanks 1 14248 |
