Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 03, 2014 1:35 pm Hi everyone, After many months of looking and investigating, we've finally got really close to Contract stage with our builder (Exciting! but also a little bit overwhelming too). Can anyone shed some light, in terms of which months (or seasons) would be the best to start building houses? Our building is in Melbourne's South-East Suburb. The intention is to knock down May and start building in June(ish). The building itself is double storey. My concern is: if construction kick start from June (Winter), the framing stage would be throughout winter season. One would assume with that much of rains etc. the timber frames would be absorbing more moisture than during the Summer season? Would that be okay, in terms of longevity of the house? Or is it worth to be seriously considering avoiding Winter season all along for framing stage and push to Summer start (Sep)? My builder has confirmed the timber frames they use are rated something 10+ (treated). Any advice is much appreciated. Best regards Re: Advice Pls: Best Season to Start Building Your House? 2Mar 03, 2014 8:43 pm We are in a similar situation. After massive delays last year, our builder finally started last month, we have just had site cut & piering done and it has been raining non stop ever since! The site looks like a complete boghole and I can easily sink up to my knees in fill. Even when (if?) it dries out enough to continue, I also have the same concerns about the frame being out in the weather coming up to winter. Certainly keeping a close eye on the long range rain forecasts! Re: Advice Pls: Best Season to Start Building Your House? 3Mar 03, 2014 9:47 pm Marmalade We are in a similar situation.
