Hi,
We just watched our house slab being poured yesterday. First batch from the truck was a beauty.
The second batch was hard so they wet it up. More than a bit.
I walked away shaking my head, got it the car and left.
The next truck was up the street out of my view, had had the tap on the truck on and he saw me say "no more water" and shaking my head. He immediately turned the tap off and turned it back on when just after I went past. I saw him turning it when I checked my rear vision mirror.
I called the concrete company and asked what was going on. Got no where. He said they mix it on site to 100 slump and they can add water to 120.
I called my site supervisor (who was not their to supervise) who said he would ring and check with the concreters.
I requested to know how much water was in each truck. Miraculously the same amount of water that was added to the first batch was to the second (that looked really wet) and the third!
For the third I went to the top of the street out of view and it was so so wet, they were just throwing the vibrator it length ways and an area of over 1 metre would just sink to level.
The engineer specs 80mm slump with water NOT to be added on site.
The builder never spec'ed 80 so 100 is the standard delivery but as far as I am aware water is still not to be added?
Also under the slab on the fill side is subsidence so the slab is just sitting on the peers (not formed over firm gorund)
I raised the concern with the site supervisor who pretty much just ignored me, saying they have had subsidence under whole houses and the peers hold them up.
I have made a report with the insurance company but have not made a claim.
Can anyone give me some advice at all? It's time for base payment but I am not happy
