Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 26, 2014 2:34 pm Hi All, We just had our slab done yesterday (1 week late). The frame all went up today!!! Do they not let slabs settle anymore?? Can this cause issues? Thanks Re: Slab then Frame 2Feb 26, 2014 7:00 pm Hey welcome!!! Henley did the same thing with us but ours at with the frame for about 3 weeks then the roof tiles went on and it sat like that for about another 3-4 weeks so now the frame and slab has settled. Where aboutsare are you building? Re: Slab then Frame 3Feb 27, 2014 11:04 am Thanks Stayxtrue. We are building in the western suburbs. With Henley. It was less than 24 from when they poured the slab. We think its ridiculous, are site supervisor told us they would at least wait 5 days. Thanks Re: Slab then Frame 4Feb 27, 2014 11:20 am I know what you mean! I thought there would be a bit of a wait in between. Our slab went down and then about 5 days later our frames were up! Blog: http://dandesbuild.blogspot.com.au Re: Slab then Frame 5Feb 27, 2014 11:28 am I guess as long as your frame and roof sits there for a week or so before bricks it should be fine Re: Slab then Frame 6Feb 27, 2014 3:19 pm My understanding is that: yes, slabs should be allowed some time to cure properly. How long depends on a number of climactic factors (heat, humidity, rain etc). However I have been told that having just the frame on the slab whilst it's curing is not too much of an issue as (assuming it's a timber frame) they don't weigh too much. However having the roof (especially a tiled roof) put on top of the frame too rapidly can be a problem. Re: Slab then Frame 7Feb 27, 2014 4:05 pm Yeah the frame weighs very little, and is intended to be at least slightly flexible. So if the slab shrinks or changes slightly as it cures, that little movement won't affect the frame; and the frame's weight on the slab makes no difference. There's nothing about the frame being present (or not) which will affect the slab's curing time significantly. Re: Slab then Frame 8Feb 27, 2014 4:09 pm Our frame was up pretty quick after the slab. The roof came a couple of weeks later, then the plastering, and bricks haven't gone up yet. Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted.
