Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 25, 2014 11:03 pm Hello, I'm a newbie trying to learn from the pros I tried using the search function but couldn't find my exact question. I'm wondering if anyone has had success getting a discount or extra inclusions for their house? (on top of the standard promotional inclusions). I started trying to negotiate with a Builder and the rep would only give me $1000 off. $1000 is a nice amount of money but only a small percentage of the $250,000 I was going to spend. Am I silly to think a builder should give me a $5000 discount (only 2%) so that I sign up then and there, because whenever I ask for this the rep looks at me like I've just murdered his family. Or do these builders run on really low margins or something? Re: Negotiating price with builder? 3Feb 26, 2014 7:50 pm Hello I think the building industry is pretty competitive on pricing and margins aren't as big as they used to be. I signed with a builder and the most they would give me was $1000 off. They did not have any additional extras like free air cond etc. They were cheaper than other builders to begin with and they knew it. I guess some builders will promote a low up front price, whereas others might be higher but then throw in the free inclusions. Compare the overall price and decide from there. If you are paying too much for the base price then free air cond isn't worth it. Re: Negotiating price with builder? 4Feb 26, 2014 8:52 pm No harm in asking! I sent an email to my sales consultants asking him what the best price he can do for me on a particular design I liked. He came back to a few days later and said he managed to get us $10, 000 off! Was so happy. Makes a huge difference! !. If I didn't ask then we wouldn't be building our double storey home. Good luck! Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait! The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20417 Wow I hadn't realised things had gotten that pricey in just a couple of years since I built, that is crazy with how much land is now costing if you aren't lucky enough to… 3 7124 |
