Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 24, 2014 5:21 pm Hi all I live in Adelaide and I was wondering if anyone had information in regards to how long people are allowed to take to install an adequate stormwater system from their residence? My 'neighbour' has lived in his newly built house for over 2 years without any stormwater drainage from his giant shed (directly next to our property), and minimal stormwater connected from his house (the pipes are temporary and pop out and dont carry the water to the road) and because he is situated on the highside of us it all flows like a waterfall into our yard and then into our neighbouring yards. When there is a torrential downpour, this proves hazardous. The neighbour is VERY uncooperative with any issue and many if not all the street have had a run in with him in regards to this or other issues. Does anyone know where we stand and if there is anything we can actually do? I should include a photo of how his giant shed has not even got stormwater pipes connected to the gutters! Please help Re: Stormwater 2Feb 24, 2014 5:26 pm You need to contact your council with regards to the water not being contained on the property. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Stormwater 3Feb 24, 2014 5:39 pm Thank you. I have called the council in regards to a few issues regarding this neighbours property as they all implicate our property (as have others on the street). I have had no luck with anything and didnt think that council would 'help' or would say its a civil issue (to make it easier for themselves). Has anyone had a similar issue? what happened and did council have the power to help. Re: Stormwater 4Feb 24, 2014 6:06 pm It is normally a council matter. I am not in South Australia and regulations differ between States. Buildings don't have to have gutters and downpipes but there are laws about the overland flow of water and the responsibility of property owners. Water off the buildings is concentrated and not considered natural flow. There have been several well covered threads about this subject in the Whirlpool Forum Home sub forum. You could do a key word search for applicable threads on H1 and W-P or else start a new thread on W-P if this thread has a limited information flow. BTW, it was good that you posted where you are from. It really helps with the answers and saves you from getting regulatory advice that may only be applicable to another State. 3in1 Supadiverta. When I started to give the address for them to check up all I had to do was mention the street number! The council worker was able to finish off the street address! lol Looks like not only am I the only one complaining and that the storm water is not the only issue They are working on it and it definitely restored my faith in the council.
