Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 24, 2014 3:20 pm Hi guys, I'm a complete novice so just hoping to get some info re building on sloping land and also any recommendations for builders who are experienced at building on sloping land in the Brisbane/Sunshine Coast area? Basically the piece of land we are interested in has a gentle slope (not sure of gradient etc.) up from the road. We are wanting a house design that suits this land and are wanting a flat backyard so would obviously need to cut out and retaining wall some of the land. If you can offer any advice it would be a HUGE help as I really do not know where to start and am wondering if it is in fact a good idea buying sloping land. Re: Building on Sloping land Sunshine Coast 2Feb 24, 2014 4:10 pm It depends what you mean by a gentle slope. I would have said no more than 1m over the length of a block. There are some ideas of costs and issues here: http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2012/04/buy ... ing-block/. If you want a flat backyard it could be very expensive as you could need retaining walls on the sides as well as across the width. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Building on Sloping land Sunshine Coast 3Mar 12, 2014 5:20 pm I recently built on 212sqm home on a very steep block in Pine Rivers north of Brisbane, it actually wasn't as expensive as I thought. I used a private builder it ended up costing me $1100/sqm move in nothing to do (except landscaping). My block sloped away from the street, the fall across the building platform is around 3m Re: Building on Sloping land Sunshine Coast 4Mar 24, 2014 9:40 pm We are also facing similar issue with our block. Land we bought had about 1 meter fall with slope which is hardly noticeable. At the end of first week we went to check the land and saw Porter Davis had done the excavation. I soon noticed the cut of the front is too deep which could result in a slope towards house. Last week they had completed the slab and it became more prominent that slope is inevitable unless something is done. This was never agreed and hope PD will provide a solution. We do not want water coming towards house when there is rain.

House on the neighboring block in the right side of our land is already completed and it has a flat front yard. You can find more picture in our blog. Re: Building on Sloping land Sunshine Coast 5Mar 25, 2014 11:55 am There are a couple ways to stop watering going into your house. Retain the area in front, put ag pipe and drainage gravel across it, or use a grated drain to capture it. If you want more specific advice send me an email. Give Jonathan a call.
