Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 18, 2008 9:00 pm We are building the Windsor 47 with PD, and having no end of troubles. Our major problem is that our bricks have pitted and chipped when they have been washed. Has anyone else had problems with Boral Vaniila bricks pitting and chipping when washed. The picutire below shows what has happened.
Neither Porter Davis or Boral accept that this is a problem. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k288/xoxsurrenderxox/DSCF0286.jpg Apart from this The wrong benchtops have been put in our kitchen The vanities, basins and mirrors are not as per display, but noone told us they changes The workmanship for our tiling is really bad. the niches are uneven. The cooling and heating for our guest ensuite cannot be installed All heating and cooling ducts have been put in the kitchen instead of the dining and family room Our solar panels have been put on the wrong side of the roof The render on our facade is chipping away. It has been a very disappointing experience which PD don't seem willing to resolve Very uphappy!!! Re: Porter Davis and Boral 2May 19, 2008 8:39 am hi anderson1462, sorry i don't have any input regarding your problems with PD. However, your post has made me question whether i go with PD to build my home.
My partner and i thought that of all the major builders PD were quite good, but from the sounds of it, they are probably just like the rest. Anyhow, good luck with it all. I'l be sure to check up on this post to see if anyone else has had the same problems. Cheers. Re: Porter Davis and Boral 3May 20, 2008 2:29 pm anderson1462,
Sorry to see the mess... Have you spoken to site supervisor? Have they taken any action yet? The bricks which have chipped in the above pic..are they a part of ur fornt, back or side wall? Which facade have you opted for? Hope PD reponds positively Good Luck mate... Re: Porter Davis and Boral 4May 20, 2008 4:07 pm We have spoken to every one up to the state manager and no one acknowledged there is anything wrong with the bricks.
We have lodged a complaint with consumer affairs and hope we will get some resolution to our problem. So disappointing when the house is almost finished Re: Porter Davis and Boral 6May 21, 2008 10:12 am No they haven't suggested any solution. Practically we would need to look at that as an option but we really didn't want a rendered house. The house is almost finished, and I'm sure replacing the bricks would be a nightmare. Re: Porter Davis and Boral 7May 26, 2008 8:22 pm It's pretty poor when problems such as this aren't dealt with by the builder. The new owners shouldn't have to worry about these sort of matters. Sounds like PD's service is slipping which is disappointing.
Best of luck with your project. Re: Porter Davis and Boral 8May 27, 2008 5:23 pm That's terrible - PD should be looking into it for you, although I would say the onus is on Boral to replace the bricks, as they are the ones who manufactured the defective product! Good luck - keep the pressure up on PD to handle it for you! Re: Porter Davis and Boral 9May 27, 2008 7:38 pm Very sorry to hear your building experiences. Builders should definitely be accountable for their work and must deliver what they promised.!
Hope you solve it in a satisfactory way. Raz If you think you can, you can. Re: Porter Davis and Boral 10May 27, 2008 7:43 pm Just a query....you are building the windsor - a PD prestige home, which only use austral bricks. Just curious as to how you got to use a boral brick?
We, and quite a few others have found it impossible to get PD to allow a different companies bricks from that specified for the range of homes. Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Porter Davis and Boral 12May 27, 2008 11:43 pm very good point Vanderlay! We wanted LaTrobe which is Austral and were told no because we are building Lifestyle so can only have Boral.........
Sorry to hear about all the troubles you've had Anderson1462. One you could probably handle - if they were prepared to fix it - but as many as you've had - terrible. My husband was at PD office in Keilor Park last week and a lady was sitting in her car in their carpark with photos on display letting people know about her experience with PD - wasn't good. Hope they work something out for you soon. LOL - that's EXACTLY what I was thinking - we're also building with PD prestige, and when we did our Colours, they were very specific about what you HAD to choose from (at the time I didn't even realise that Lifestyle use Boral - though I'm very happy with our bricks!!) Re: Porter Davis and Boral 14May 28, 2008 9:58 pm The separate companies are so as to not have all the eggs in one basket. A while back one of the brick companies had supply problems (kiln out of action).
Half the building work was held up, the tradies were moved onto the other homes. Same goes for plaster board - different brands - and many other things in your home. Re: Porter Davis and Boral 17May 29, 2008 1:30 pm perryr Colours? Nup! Left that to someone else. So it cant be your fault!!! Your place is looking awesome, the Mrs did a great job!! Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Porter Davis and Boral 18May 29, 2008 4:32 pm perryr Colours? Nup! Left that to someone else. Yes...exactly!!!! Although you did a great job of finding out what they were and listing them for all us females!!! And, yes, B has done a great job (esp that 'donkey' - looove that!!! You would laugh at me - I went to our place, today, and the guy from YV Water was fixing the tap so the brickies had water (hmmm...kind of important!!) and he said "You'll have to move this - it's in the middle of your driveway!" and I thought 'Oh yeah.....it is too!!!' having not really thought about that (and of course knowing that DH had that under control.........we're actually waiting on PD to organise that, and have been for weeks ) Re: Porter Davis and Boral 20May 29, 2008 11:47 pm As a Prestige customer I was told I could pick from the Boral range as Austral was having supply problems and some of their bricks were not available. In fact I don't think they've been available for months and months. It wasn't really encouraged but the option was there.
As for those photos I'll add my 2 cents and say that all bricks look different after they are acid washed. I just had my Austral Canterbury bricks delivered and they don't look much like the display bricks or catalogue photos at all. I'm just hoping that when they are washed the color comes up brighter and with more variation - I can tell looking at them at the moment that they are quite dusty. I would say that's the only explanation Boral are going to give you - the 'after' photos may well be intended as how they are meant to look..
