Hi all,
Im new to this, but i wanted to see how people in my area went with their footings. My partner and i are building in seafood meadows, on Manordale court. Our block is pretty much dead flat, very very gentle forward slope.
We are building the Serenity 254 with Rivergum, and ill start off by saying they have been nothing but a pain from the day we signed our contract. But ill start off with the latest issue, our footings.
Before we signed our contract, we had all the soil testing done and what not to get a footings price, this came back at $15,705 for our house, which we found reasonable, and signed our contract. Just a few days ago after all council and encumbrance approvals we were pretty much good to go to begin building, then got a variation saying we need to pay an additional $23,500 on top of the existing $15,705.
The footings are 700mm deep by 300mm with 100mm slab. This is an incredible jump from $15,000 to $39,205. We spoke to our neighbours and their footings are the same size (for same size house with Hickenbotham) only cost them $20,000.
Our consultant at Rivergum is in no way helpful at all, he just ignores you and takes a week to response to a yes or no question.
When we ask why they are more expensive our answer was basically 'because you need more footings'. Thanks..
Does anyone have advice on what we can do? This has absolutely crushed us and theres no way we can afford an additional $24k.
Zac
