Browse Forums Building A New House Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Tiles done 1121Mar 13, 2015 6:27 am awww thanks Sheilzy! It means a lot from you (love your selections) I must say that most of the people who post on these forums that I follow seem to have great taste! (Maybe I've already curated the list ) I'm still unsure about the Caesarstone in the kitchen, but I'm sure it'll be fine over time. (I just was musing last night that my MIL's bathroom is yellow and black with fluro orange polka dot curtains on the window and has a rubber duck motif shower curtain and I barely notice it now) Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1122Mar 13, 2015 2:57 pm With our builder Granite and caeserstone are the same price as long as we don't pick some exotic thing. My vote is always for natural stone wherever possible. Then again we're not doing white tops, I understand this can be pretty expensive in granite. I'd do stone floors too if I could but for some reason stone is 6 times as much money here as it is in the US and it all comes from the same place;) Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1123Mar 13, 2015 3:18 pm I think its the labour cost as you'll need to prep the floor before you can lay down the stone Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1124Mar 13, 2015 3:49 pm just about all of it is more expensive here than the US! And yeah a lot of it is labour costs Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1125Mar 13, 2015 4:05 pm yvonneh just about all of it is more expensive here than the US! Tell me about it! We're toying with the idea of importing kitchen appliances from overseas. What little research we've done showed the price differences to be outrageous! I am bringing in a few things, such as security cameras and of all things our bath towel rails and other such accessories. I find the Australian selection of these to be too thin and not as rich, plus 3 times as much $$:) Towel rails for example, Taymore Brentwood Satin Nickel: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1128Mar 13, 2015 5:29 pm gandn Picture piggies ba ha ha ha ha. too funny! greedy little picture piggies too! don't worry I'm one too Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1130Mar 13, 2015 5:32 pm Sheilzy yvonneh just about all of it is more expensive here than the US! T97N2.html do appliances work in Oz - voltage wise? I was going to import light fittings and door handles. Door handles are obviously easier. light fittings will need to comply with Oz regs. Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1131Mar 13, 2015 5:35 pm We have to do some more research before we commit but it should work. The only potential deal breaker I can see is over warranty so if something goes wrong, then it's not covered and you have to bear any repair costs. Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1132Mar 13, 2015 5:36 pm Ah I see. those are imported from Europe. Makes sense. what's making you hesitate? Using a phone. Even if we end up with a dud, it's half the price of local supply so we just buy a replacement if all else fails and we won't really have lost any money. But some places are more reputable than others, pays to check. Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1134Mar 13, 2015 5:46 pm I'm delegating this to hubby. My handover list is super long as is! Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1135Mar 13, 2015 5:56 pm So great to see your house coming along. I think importing is a great idea. We are charged so much more for products than the usa when the same product is made in the same country eg a European appliance. Re: KDR with Sekisui House: benchtops in 1137Mar 13, 2015 6:25 pm For anything electrical you really only need to consider hertz and voltage. If it's compatible the plugs/ wiring can be changed. One tip for lighting, you can buy lamps and such from the US even ones that are 120v as you can use local globes and either just change the plugs or bend them to fit our powerpoints as long as you use local bulbs. Most US light fittings are rated for 250V. As to whether you should actually do this or not you need to consider insurance and other issues if something goes wrong. Generally I don't think there would be a problem but it's a potential.
