I'll have to ask my husband.... He says it's undecided maybe a dark one to match the monument roof... Re: KDR with Sekisui House: 5 weeks to go!!?! 1282Mar 27, 2015 8:36 pm yvonneh Our SS called and said the estimator offered us : 1. Keep the sink as is and get $250 credit 2. Get the sink we specified and installed the way we wanted (undermounted) Um. Option 2 seems obvious. Glad he checked in. It is a bit of a pain for them as it means the benchtop needs to be replaced too. Just playing catch up....definitely go with option 2. Will they need to replace the stone benchtop? Blog | http://ourhudson.wordpress.com Build thread | viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72159 Yeah it will need replacing. He hasn't said anything but the sinks are totally different so I can't see how they can not replace it... But I never did find out if the sink they had there was installed as under or over mounted Re: KDR with Sekisui House: 5 weeks to go!!?! 1285Mar 28, 2015 6:27 am clintdb It's a smart set of colours you have there around the garage. Starting to wonder now if our brick selection was the right one Can't wait to see your bricks go up Re: KDR with Sekisui House: 5 weeks to go!!?! 1286Mar 29, 2015 3:37 pm Just a thought...re: sinks I love under mound sinks too, but was told by too many people, be careful it will chip if you wash pots, pans drop your crockery on it around the edges. Also the water seeps in the crack where the sink is set. So we have to get an over mound sink when time comes for us. Re: KDR with Sekisui House: 5 weeks to go!!?! 1287Mar 29, 2015 3:44 pm Good that you put it out there... I was wondering the same thing. Under mount sinks would it mean you have to be more vigilant on moisture? To prevent mould growing and festering on the silicon? Then preventing the stone from chipping.. Re: KDR with Sekisui House: 5 weeks to go!!?! 1288Mar 29, 2015 3:48 pm We considered the overmount... but i have a thing about grout and edges. If it festers and I don't know about it that's not so good but i prefer it over actually seeing it fester!!! So decided not seeing it would be better... eeek! I keep a lot of old toothbrushes just to clean the mould. Vinegar and baking soda are my very good friends And as for chipping, I will only have myself to blame. I tend to use the sink the most and am fairly careful. Personally if I could choose I'd go a timber top (just so it's not so 'clangy' but with the package it came with stone... so we're doing stone and seeing how that goes! Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Garage door 1289Mar 29, 2015 7:13 pm We too have gone for the undermount. I heard about the issue of chipping the edges, but hopefully we can mitigate that with just a modicum of care and attention. With regards to the water ingress issue, my parents had undermount sinks in a laminate bench top installed in mid-eighties. They re-did their benchtops about a year ago, so it was almost 30 years. One side of the sinks had started to pull away from the benchtop in the last few years and water had slowly got in and caused some swelling to the chipboard underneath the laminate, but keep in mind that this was: a) constructed in the '80s when glues and construction techniques weren't what they are today b) even if some water does get in, the swelling issue won't be a problem with stone bench tops. The reason we have gone for the undermount this time around is that with my parents' bench was just so easy to wipe water etc straight into the sink without the lip in the way. And of course, it does like quite nice too. So no growth monsters in between the benchtop and sink? (if so don't let me know ) Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Garage door 1291Mar 29, 2015 8:30 pm Not for most of the time. Obviously, once the water started getting into the chipboard, it's difficult to dry it out, so mould started developing at that point. But this won't be an issue with yours or ours. Even if the silicone starts to fail, we have two rather impermeable surfaces (stainless steel and stone), so as long as we keep the area dry before getting it re-sealed, there shouldn't be any issues at all. I was thinking I'm going to have some sort of terry toweling and every night wipe it all dry .... Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Garage door 1293Mar 30, 2015 8:08 am Ahh over vs undermount. We are still very undecided. We don't have to make our decision quite yet though. I like the look of undermount but feel that overmount is a bit more practical? Plus I drop stuff all the time while cooking so I'm a bit apprehensive with having an undermount sink Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Garage door 1294Mar 30, 2015 8:27 am I bought a mug the other day that has a silicon wrapper around the base of it. It will be good for the stone benchtop. I really hate the clang from putting crockery on glass or stone... 4 weeks, 4 weeks, 4 weeks but who's counting ? Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Garage door 1295Mar 30, 2015 8:31 am We almost "downgraded" to a laminate bench top for that very reason. But we decided that we would give the stone a try and also if we were to sell in the future, the stone bench top would obviously be a much better proposition. And my husband likes the stone. A lot. It was just me being the naysayer. As you say it will be good for resale and maybe I will grow to like it? Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Garage door 1297Mar 30, 2015 7:27 pm Wow I've missed so much! How good does the garage door look? Awesome pick! Totally understand your issue with the grout around an overmount sink. That was something I considered too. Ended up doing it anyway coz I was worried the kidlets would chip the essastone. But I feel like it's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place!! Hopefully we won't get manky grout and you won't get chipping! Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Garage door 1298Mar 30, 2015 7:44 pm Thanks Charlston01 - esp the comments on the door. I'm so envious and full of admiration (surely there is a one word option for that... 'admirationful'? 'admirationous') of your facade that anything we do pales in comparison. Yeah the stone benchtop thing is silly. Saw your overmount sink and it looks great! Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Garage door 1299Apr 01, 2015 3:18 pm Melsie's chipped stone has me worried ($250 to fix it) Anyway popped by to say that our SS called this morning and our rainwater tank is in (has been in) and the painter is sick so it will be finished next week (the painting that is!). We have yet to get the stairs from the Laundry still. And to expect to be contacted by the office about our trench. Something I'm now super worried about. Because we are on rock I suspect it will be fairly expensive. Not to mention it will end up potentially ruining the driveway part that we weren't going to change for a while to a state where we have to do something about it. Annnnnd we're out of cash.. not sure what happened but based on my forecast we're going to be able to pay SH and then the floors, and maybe the driveway and that is it. Bank balance will be pretty much zero. Oh we can afford little things like the fridge but with this potential unknown all I can do is hope that it will be not too expensive. I'm happy to wait and save for stuff but it's the unknown that is scaring me. Re: KDR with Sekisui House: Garage door 1300Apr 01, 2015 7:45 pm Do I read that as you're paying for the whole build in cash and not via the bank?! If so, way to go girl!! My fingers and toes are crossed super tight for you that it's no more than a grand or two... We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 37085 The biggest challenge will be if you take out a loan and then run out of money - you'll have an incomplete security and lenders do not like this so you can get stuck.… 2 18897 Hi, I am looking into doing a KDR in Melbourne and am contemplating using Kialla Homes. I am looking for feedback on them from others who have built with them. 0 13437 |
