We are having a double storey built I should probably just call Burbank on Monday to find out!! Hopefully we will get the chance to upgrade our aircon unit if it's not powerful enough without an amendment to contract fee! Hi Trimum Clintdb mentioned above the aircon unit they got and another that they were recommended. It's a big house as you know but we never thought about asking how big the aircon unit would be!! Do you know what there standard kW size they might be giving us? We are at slab stage so wondering if we could upgrade....we are renting just round the corner from where we are building (oran park) and the summer temps this year have been incredible to cope with and our rental has no aircon...!! Yes you will get a chance to upgrade. We upgraded ours and added a zone. You get to deal directly with the air-conditioning company. We were allocated 2 zones (ground and first floor zones) but that's great to know we will be able to upgrade I will talk to Burbank tomorrow and make sure they let us know who to talk to they have been ok but the communication has been a bit off sometimes I don't know whether we would have gone with Sekisui if we had known they would have sold up to Burbank but hopefully things will go ok!! It's the same people doing the building for the most part so I think you will be fine. A lot of it will come from the design... And from what shazw seems to be experiencing you should be fine... As long as you don't mind reselecting things! Re: KDR with Sekisui House: post handover 2407Feb 14, 2017 8:42 am trimum Thanks so much for the replies that is great to know. Hi trimum - why don't you start a thread of your own and put some plans up there. We could have a look and offer advice or comments based on what we have already done BTW, as cat_dunc said, have a look back about a page or so on this thread and you will see my post on our A/C which is for a 2-storey house. You can use the numbers I listed (floor area, kW size, outlets etc) as a gauge for your one. From memory your backyard is... north western aspect? Good coverage from those big trees out back! Re: KDR with Sekisui House: post handover 2409Feb 19, 2017 8:26 am Shh don't tell anyone but we opened one of the stacking doors! Amazing!! The breeze is fantastic! Here are a couple of photos. Probably another week before it's done. From memory your backyard is... north western aspect? Good coverage from those big trees out back! Photos in post above. Deck is actually on western side. But the trees are great at shading our place... Maybe too much so for the solar panels but we can't have everything! Re: KDR with Sekisui House: post handover 2411Feb 19, 2017 9:22 am Hmm did I also tell you all I got my whole of house water filter installed? Finally! Had it purchased before we moved in. But got it installed late January. I love it as it's also made our plants less yellow (chlorine is filtered out) but one thing I need to be more careful about is the mould in the shower! Who knew it's just a big influence! I'm trying to combat it with vinegar and a lot more ventilation. Pic of filter Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Massive hole in plasterboard needs covering but that's a man's job (ie husband) Re: KDR with Sekisui House: post handover 2412Feb 19, 2017 3:56 pm Wow looks fantastic... looks like a walkway now connects to your courtyard. I remember Sekisui tried to sell me a single tap filter... declined it. But whole of house sounds like such a good idea! Hmm can I ask, with the CP glass, what differences have you noticed between that and normal 3mm glazing? I remember Sekisui tried to sell me a single tap filter... declined it. But whole of house sounds like such a good idea! Hmm can I ask, with the CP glass, what differences have you noticed between that and normal 3mm glazing? The glazing is great. In my view worth it. We noticed it when still in the build process and had a very hot day and no roof at the time. Being behind the glass was so much cooler! It's not something that's easily changed later so would urge you to splurge now. Yes the design of the deck is to allow us to walk from the courtyard to the deck. We learned that from a previous house where it was very annoying not to be able to get from one verandah to the other. I'm hoping our removal of a set of stairs is not going to be similar! We removed it to save some money and the assumption that we'd rarely use it. Re: KDR with Sekisui House: post handover 2414Feb 19, 2017 6:38 pm Just on the glass - we did double glazing on the north and the couple of west facing windows. If I had my time again, I would have done it on the 3 bedroom windows (east facing) upstairs as well. Even though the house is kept cool or warm with the A/C, it is noticeable the difference between the bedroom itself and being right next to the window - especially in the winter when the space right next to the glass is actually quite cool compared to the bedroom (or the rest of the house for that matter). The other rooms that have the double glazing have much less difference between the glass and the room. North and south in living room. The west facing slider we went for thermaline DG. Reckon the 6.38CP helps with any sort of thermal retention in winter? We had an opportunity to change when they switched to A&L but didn't... asking now in case that opportunity comes up again. Thanks Re: KDR with Sekisui House: post handover 2416Feb 19, 2017 8:05 pm I just checked with my husband (who was in charge with the analysis of the different glazing options at the time!) and he tells me that there is a slight bit of insulative property for winter. So yes some help but not as significant as double glazed. Re: KDR with Sekisui House: post handover 2418Feb 20, 2017 8:28 am interestingly I spoke to the same brickies that did our place and they said "all" the supervisors have quit (rather than going to Burbank).
