Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 27, 2012 3:13 pm Hi Guys Would like to thank this forum for providing us a lot of information on various things which I would have never found out. So this is going to be my first home ever and as like everyone's else I am hoping it to be the dream home that I have always Imagined. Although the version would have been a slightly different if i was a millionaire but never the less this one is close enough. So we started middle of this year planning that we need to buy some land soon as the amount of rent we are paying has almost touched to a price where adding a few more hundred would see us paying off a mortgage. So like everyone I was looking everywhere and in all directions in Melbourne from Epping to Point cook and from Warragul to Bacchus Marsh and we finally decided to settle in the South East. The decision was influenced by the development and infrastructure being put into that side mainly schools, public transport, Roads, Hospitals and Daycare. Now only if we could decide which suburb...sigh! Given that our tight budget and my decision to be always Debt free or as soon as possible the only 2 suburbs that would fit will be the Cranbourne/Clyde area or the Officer/Pakenham. So the search began I don't think I have left out any land estate that I have not visited and sourced the most appropriate land and its location vs price. We finally settled on Officer as a suburb of choice as looking at Google maps you can clearly see how much that suburb has changed in the past 2-3 years. Looking at various Land estate we bumped into Aspect a Vic Urban undertaking. It looked a bit undeveloped compared to the other estates but since it was Govt I was keen on it. Looking at the prices I was surely motivated to dig a bit more and finally did select a lot that was just perfect for us. So since last week we are the proud owners of a new Lot in Aspect Stage 6. Keeping our fingers crossed for the next phase Pic and many more to Follow Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My Dream Build--->https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61241 Re: Our First Home (The Dream) 2Nov 27, 2012 6:46 pm Congratulations on purchasing land, nothing better than owning your own home. Any ideas on builders yet? or have you already picked one? Re: Our First Home (The Dream) 3Nov 27, 2012 9:15 pm Thanks I have looked all over the land and most of them seem to have a pretty bad rep online. I know ppl who are not happy will only complain but the number is just amazing. Also I need a 4bed + 2 living areas to fit on the land which most of the builder wont be able to fit for the price I am looking for. After all this research I have finalized 8Homes & Fairhaven as to be my chosen builder till date. I have not paid any deposit or signed anything yet as I what to get the best price/value for my money so I am researching into it very throughly. Also being December I am sure the reps need as many customers to sign on so they can have a good number for year end so i am waiting for that moment. For 8Homes I am looking at S5.1 or S7.2 For Fairhaven I am looking at Covally 225 If anyone has built with them ether the same design or have experience building with them please do share. We are basically pushing the Lounge & Master a bit more out so that the end walls sit flush and we have more space in the meals area. We have also gone for the extension of the alfresco to match the length of the building with stone pillars. We did this so that in case we think of an extra room we can convert the alfresco to a rumpus or another family area which ever works or is required at that time. Here is how it will look in final. Mind is racing through a mil ideas at the moment so kinda going crazy. We are thinking of going full white look with the interior ie. glossy floors tiles & white walls & roof. If I can get away with a bit of gloss in the walls & roof that will also help with the look. I am no interior designer but basically what I am trying to do is brighten up the whole house so that we don't have to use any lights in daytime and few lights at night so we keep the bills and Temp down. Hopefully it will also give a illusion that the size is much bigger than it really looks (my assumption). I am also thinking of painting the inside of the fence white so it feels like a part of the house with continuous white throughout and less of an eyesore. That was for the paint. In terms or primary colours for interior deco I am focusing on. 1. White 2. Red 3. Navy Blue and materials will be 1. Chrome 2. Glass Keeping in mind the practical aspect of it and how easy it will be to clean them. All this is just a plan as yet. If you have any suggestions or ideas please feel free to throw them at me. Thx My Dream Build--->https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61241 Re: Our First Home (The Dream) 15Dec 31, 2012 3:08 pm I think keeping things light will definitely give the illusion of more space. I think all white's are a great idea. Gloss on walls is also a good idea, I don't know why it's not a standard thing that people do! Do you mind me asking what helped you decide on your plan and builder? Did you get a good price in the end? Are you getting tiled or colorbond roof? Do you mind me asking what helped you decide on your plan and builder? Did you get a good price in the end? Are you getting tiled or colorbond roof? Well the decision was purely based on having a low mortgage as I hate loans. We were looking at 8Homes & Fairhaven as the prices were very similar but we chose Fairhaven as it was coming under 200k which was the limit for the home. Also the covelley225 was the biggest house in the Bridgewater range that they did. I would say the price is very completive compared to other big volume builders where the base price for a 4bed is easily over 200k for a standard house. Were were lucky enough to book in the Christmas time so we got offered the colourbond roof & evaporative cooling included in the total price. My Dream Build--->https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61241 Re: Our First Home (The Dream) 18Jan 07, 2013 9:10 am So we went over to visit the land yesterday to do some measurements. After it was done we went around looking at other house nearby in the Cardenea Village next doors. Luckily we found a house built by Fairhaven and which was exactally what we are planning to build. The Owners were also around so we asked them if we could just do a quick walk around and take some pics which they were happy too. So below are the few pics we took. Now I am not sure on materials that are being used n all but i tried to take as much pics as possible which made sense to me.
