Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 14, 2014 2:19 pm Hi everyone! I'm back, after nearly two years when I started the first thread about our new home project. We could not sell our first house so we did not get the finance so we had to put our plans aside... and I think it was good so We went to plan B, rented out our house, moved into our little cottage on the new property and had enough time to rethink our house design and what we need and want. We changed the design of the house and also decided to go with GJ Gardner. This is also the reason for the new thread as pretty much everything changed The bank also gave us the green light now so we can start. YEAAHHHH!! Our property is about 30km from Hervey Bay. Here some photos and also the house plans. I hope you like it. Any comments would be great! Our Custom Design QLD Home with GJ Gardner - The Beginning 3Dec 14, 2014 4:17 pm I like your plans. Looks like there's plenty of storage and love the big alfresco area. We are building just outside Hervey Bay with Coral Homes. Has been a long process for us too with a few problems with the valuations coming in substantially short and mortgage insurers. Anyway, it's coming together and we now have a site start date of 12th January. When do you start building? Good luck and I look forward to following your progress. Cute dogs too! Re: Our Custom Design QLD Home with GJ Gardner - The Beginni 4Dec 14, 2014 5:42 pm @bashworth Thanks a lot for your thoughts. The WIR is on the west wall and it is open, no door, so I don't think this will be an issue. We rather have the WIR on the West side than the window. don't forget we are in QLD @daydream_build Thats great to hear you are also starting now No, we don't have the date yet. At this stage, they are preparing the contract and plans for the council and we do have the colour selection tomorrow. How long did it take for you from the colour selection till you got the date when they start? How exciting! Do you have a building thread here or blog? I wish you all the best with your build! The variations from colours took 4 weeks to come through. The bank stuffed up our paperwork so had to do another valuation and issue new paperwork. Think council approval took about 4 to 5 weeks. Where abouts are you building? We're building in Dundowran. Re: Our Custom Design QLD Home with GJ Gardner - The Beginni 6Dec 14, 2014 7:50 pm We are building in between Howard and Pacific Haven. We love the rural lifestyle and the privacy. Used to live in Kawungan in Hervey Bay. Moved out there few months ago. Looking forward to following your building progress! The lady from GJ Gardner was very very helpful, thorough, super friendly and we had lot of fun in choosing everything we need I cannot wait to see it coming all together into one piece which is our house. I can imagine these colours are not everyone's cup of tea but we are going for the more traditional style Especially the red brick will probably surprise some of you but it is one of the brick colours you don't find very often here in our area where we live so we are even more happy that we like them These are our outside colours combination we have chosen. It is not our house drawing or picture on this photo. Its a nice online feature where you can try different colours to see what you like If you also would like to see how your colour work together, here is the link: http://www.colourtouch.com.au/ Our bricks and roof colours: The inside walls: Porcelain floor tiles is the largest part of the photo. Kitchen cabinetry is the dark sample and the stone sample is the bench top. The floor tiles will be the same in the whole house except bedrooms. again floor, and kitchen cabinetry which is Polytec Melamin Truffle Lini Sheen Hier the splashback (the largest in this photos) the dark sample is the kitchen cabinetry and the stone sample is the bench top which is pretty much the same like the splashback. The laundry and bathrooms: the light tile is the main colour for walls and floors. The grey tile is the feature. The grey sample which calls Polytec Melamine Char Oak Matt is for the cabinetry in the laundry and bathrooms. Your stone bench top looks very similar to the one I picked, love the tap ware too! Red bricks are timeless and look awesome with a darker colour roof! Re: Our Acreage Custom Design Home with GJ Gardner 19Jan 08, 2015 10:22 am Posting to follow. Red brick is a classic, for my small build I am using it as well (but with a shale grey colorbond roof)... Did you pay extra for your polytec 'woodgrain' as compared to the plain colors? Re: Our Acreage Custom Design Home with GJ Gardner 20Jan 08, 2015 11:33 am Thank you guys. We love the classic look of our future house @Bonnie_p: yes, I saw that there are lot of details we both like them I also love horses! I hope I will have one or two one day <3 We have the space for it. @Treesachanger: I have to jump to your thread to follow as well No, we didn't have to pay extra for the woodgrain. Its the polytec sheen which is a glossy finish and I love it! I must say, after reading through this forum, that GJ Gardner gave us a lot of to choose from by the colour selection without upgrading/paying extra. Starting with plenty of bricks to choose from up to 1200mm entry door as standard and plenty of other details. I know you get what you pay for and maybe our quote was a bit higher than by other builders but what I realized, lots of builders are trying to catch you with a smaller price at the beginning. Then when you start to ask about the details, everything what looks nicer is an upgrade. At the end, you end up with a much higher price then you hoped for... This is just my opinion For now, we are very happy we went with GJ Gardner. I'm actually meeting with one of the sales guys tomorrow for an appointment. Definitely not signing anything yet… 3 13234 We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds. That’s why we… 5 16252 |
