Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Nicest way to tell your builder you have a ind. inspecto 21Feb 14, 2014 9:33 am At contract stage our builder (Henley) said "If you need an independent inspector at any stage of the build just let us know so we can arrange a time, we have nothing to hide". I always thought "The bank insisted" is a good excuse if you are worried about hurting their feelings. I can understand a builder feeling like you don't trust them by getting one, but a good builder should be thinking that they aren't going to find any problems and I'm going to look good out of this, not worried about it. Re: Nicest way to tell your builder you have a ind. inspecto 22Feb 14, 2014 10:24 am I know all the things about the builder is not your friend and it is business but I still felt quite sick telling our builder we were having an inspection. As a small private builder we talked to him directly throughout the build and always got the feeling he was a genuine person. So many times he would take us through recently completed work and say "are you completely happy with that?" Unfortunately, I think most people only bring in a Private Inspector when they are unhappy or think something is wrong. That wasn't the case but I still felt bad. Anyway, our builder now has an acclamation award from H & K Ryan. We are extremely happy and I am sure he is too. Re: Nicest way to tell your builder you have a ind. inspecto 23Feb 15, 2014 1:04 pm We are building with PD in Orchard Rise - Berwick and construction work is about to begin. At the time of signing the contract we told them we are planning to use a private inspector. Our BC told us they are also getting an independent inspector though they didn't seem like unhappy about we getting a private inspector. Just for peace of mind, we would anyway get a private inspector on our own. At the moment we don't know how to find a good inspector. Any information to help us finding an inspector is highly appreciated. They were fine with it and since then we've had our preslab inspection done and that went fine. I was emailing and calling my admin to organise cause first stage is hardest. Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait! Would you mind giving me the details of the private inspector you chose? Re: Nicest way to tell your builder you have a ind. inspecto 26Mar 26, 2014 1:43 pm Hi PEARZ, how did you go with your inspection so far, I mean in terms of quality of service? Did the urban property inspections find any defects with your build? I would send it to the certifier who is technically your representative and working on your behalf not the builder's 1 2229 Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
