Browse Forums Building A New House Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 281Jul 14, 2015 11:06 am What flooring did you pick in the end? Either looks great!! Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 282Jul 14, 2015 11:06 pm Thanks. We're really pleased with how the elevation has turned out. It pretty much looks exactly as drawn. Still haven't seen the roller door down, but sure it will look fine. At the moment, we've picked the bottom laminate in that picture - eligna wide board - oak planks with saw cuts for the colour. It matches the carpets perfectly. We've got two quotes and there was a 2k difference across the quotes. It pays to shop around. We were worried it was a little too grey and may date easily, but it should help camouflage the continual malting of our Labrador! As for the 49 items, I reckon we'd identified about 30 of them. Some items we were insistent on being fixed were dismissed as being inconsequential (or design floors) by the building inspector. At least this is an objective non biased view, rather than an argument with the site supervisor. They've already started work on the items that need rectifying and we've had a win on some of PS figures (although a few still in discussion). Hoping for smooth sailing from here. Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 283Jul 15, 2015 10:34 am I like the wide plank look too. And I don't think the mid colours will date as much as the white or very dark ones. Good luck with moulting dogs, you wouldn't believe how much my chihuaha moults, and it's so fine it goes everywhere, good excuse for Kelly to do his job (nickname becos my munchkins think our robot vac looks like a slater ) otherwise I would have to vaccum every day! It sounds like it was well worth it to get the inspector in! Yes fingers crossed for smooth seas and fine weather! Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 284Jul 15, 2015 4:20 pm Love the laminate you picked, will look beautiful Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 285Jul 16, 2015 11:16 pm It took me a while with the nick name Thanks, we feel better about the laminate choice now. We've got two quotes and they were a couple of grand difference so we've now we got a third. Would love to buy the carpet and laminate from the same shop, but the laminate price we've got from a separate flooring shop is almost $20/Sqm cheaper. We've sent off a separate quotation request for skirting boards. We also got a revised aggregate quotation through. $120/ Sqm plus an additional $10/Sqm for pumping. This is still a bit more than we were expecting. We'll get a few more quotes before pushing ahead with this. It's all happening, we probably need to think about window dressings sooner rather than later as well! We don't have a handover date yet. Still unsure if the builder has accepted all of our PCI items and we're still disputing a number of items in the final account. At the end of the day, these delays are just holding us up from sending the final paperwork to the bank for the final progress payment!t may delay handover, but we're in no real rush! Our fencing contractor is going a little slower than expected. Hopefully the neighbours aren't put out too much with a weekend without fences. It's only been a year since we moved in and I'm still waiting for my skirtings to be fitted but I have at least finished painting them. Not too happy with the semi gloss, should've gone full gloss I think. That agg quote is reasonable (!) some quote at $150. There also seems to be a few around who under quote to get the work and the finish isn't good, so get some recommendations if you can. What colour did you choose Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 287Jul 17, 2015 11:15 pm Congrats on PCI! Your elevation is stunning, it's going to look so beautiful with the landscaping in. Ouch on the aggregate quote, I was hoping for a lot less as I want to get that done too! I'm sure your neighbours won't mind about the fence, it will give them something to talk about Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 288Jul 18, 2015 12:18 am We'll be going with a combination of roller blinds and sheers for most of the house. In our bedroom we'll probably opt for sheers and curtains. Will probably do the sheers ourselves. Thanks Trixee. We have some ideas on landscaping for the front. We're struggling with the back but will get there. A pool or not is probably the biggest question! Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 289Jul 18, 2015 10:59 am Fingers crossed for the all the PCI items are accepted, and that final account is cleared up! Not really the type of surprise you want before getting the keys. Love your choice of window dressings, will look lovely. There seems to be quite a big range with pricing of exposed aggregate. Didn't realise there is a difference in quality depending on price as Treeseachanger mentioned. Good to know. Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 290Jul 21, 2015 11:07 pm The good news.... We've accepted an offer on our current house Final account now resolved (after far too many emails and a dummy spit) Finalised flooring quotes and will hopefully go ahead tomorrow with paying a deposit. Retaining completed and waiting for some fill before installing the fence The disappointing news.... We have no idea what items from PCI have been accepted by the builder We don't have a handover date Why is it so hard to get tradies to provide a quote? To do list More quotes on window fittings (how expensive are the wave sheers?) Aggregate quotes Select paving Appliance shopping (dishwasher and fridge) Build temporary fish pond Aerial Choose gates Reticulation (bore or no bore?) Lawn type Pool or no pool? I'm sure there's others, but it's been a big few days. Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 291Jul 22, 2015 11:33 am Congratulations on the offer on your current home, that is fantastic news D_rail! That is great that your final account was resolved to, such positives for you this week Fingers crossed all your PCI items are accepted and hopefully you get a handover date soon. Sounds like it is going to be a busy couple of months and how exciting that you will soon be moving everything in to your new home! Very happy for you. Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 292Jul 22, 2015 11:58 am Congratulations on getting an offer on your current house, that must be a relief! Sounds like you are having to work hard to get the final stuff sorted - it will be worth it! Thats a load off!! Hope you have fun with the retail therapy! and fingers crossed DA comes through with the PCI items you've noted Seems there's a bit hump at the end, building is only half the story- then there's the settling in and landscaping. Hope you keep smiling and enjoy it!! Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 294Jul 22, 2015 11:58 pm Thanks all, the sale is certainly a relief and one less thing to concentrate on. We spent a fair bit of time working on getting this house ready for sale. All of the hard work and renos have been worthwhile. Especially difficult prepping before home opens with two little ones. We got a handover date today - 6 August. The last few months have dragged, especially when we were given a handover date of the end of June back in May. Kind of lucky the house sale took a few weeks. The building fatigue has struck and its been a roller coaster. We just can't wait to get the keys and have our destiny in our own hands! Our Carpets and laminate are in stock which is a bonus and shouldn't hold us up. Quotes through on blinds today. I was amazed that the quote was 40% cheaper than Kresta. We're looking at some pavers on the weekend, possible pools and a temporary fish pond set up so we can move our Koi. Plenty to keep busy with, but we wouldn't have it any other way! Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 296Jul 23, 2015 10:28 pm Thanks OHB Some action at the block with a bunch of dirt being bought in for our fences. We're planning on bringing in 60 cubic metres of soil to raise the level of the backyard. Although after seeing today's progress we probably need a bit more! Great news for the handover date, it's not too far at all! Your pond and pool will look beautiful, looks like you have lots of room for it all. After all this time it must be very exciting for you knowing all this planning is one step closer to living in a home you will love Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 298Jul 24, 2015 11:04 am Oh my that soil looks good! and easy to dig, I'm jealous....hehe Re: KDR - Dale Alcock Eastern suburbs - Handover countdown 299Jul 24, 2015 8:41 pm Wow your old house was lovely, I'm sure your new place is going to be a stunner! I hope your build continues at its current pace! Treeseachanger Oh my that soil looks good! and easy to dig, I'm jealous....hehe So much better than the clay! It looked brilliant while fresh but no where near as good now it's settled. Glad we're bringing in so,e landscape mix for top soil as well. trixee Wow your old house was lovely, I'm sure your new place is going to be a stunner! Thanks Trixee! It's amazing how things can look without everyday clutter. The only time we've lived here it's looked so good. Last year I had a gas leak at my house. 3 days later, I have about 1 sqm of my exposed aggregate paving broken up. I am not sure how to go about getting it repaired… 0 10410 After some ideas on making our patio kid friendly . Currently we have exposed aggregate. The patio faces west and is always in sun even though it has a shade directly… 0 3591 |
