Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 10, 2014 5:45 pm I am building with a small local builder who seems to be cutting corners and backtracking on things he has said. My primary concerns are: Showerbases are not on waterproofed concrete sheeting. Windows look different to plan and don't specify being UV plated (As per plan) There are gaps around the windows The insulation he is using is not what is specified on my plan. I know I need to get an Independent Building Inspection and I am looking for some recommendations. I would also like to know if anyone has any advice on how to bring these matters up to the builder? I think he see's that he is dealing with a woman and knows he may be able to get away with more. I am not very assertive and also do not want to have a bad relationship with my builder but I seriously feel as tho I am being taken for a ride. It's very upsetting to me as I am a low income earner and I worked hard, days, nights and weekends doing physically strenuous work in order to remove myself and my children from the rental trap. Any advice would be appreciated. Re: Some easy questions for ppl with builders knowledge! 4Feb 10, 2014 9:00 pm If you are in Melbourne I can recommend Branko the building expert on this forum: http://www.buildingexpert.net.au/ I know how you feel about approaching your builder but better get some assistance at this stage than finish your build with regrets you didn't tackle the things that bothered you. Branko will at least be able to tell you if your doubts are justified. Good luck.
