Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 22, 2012 2:34 pm Hi fellow Canberrans, My husband and I recently purchased a block in Crace. We have designed the house we want through a designer. We are going to go seek quotes from several builders soon, particularly the following: 1. Goldruby Homes 2. Andara Homes 3. Classic Constructions 4. APA Homes If anyone has built through these builders, can you please let us know what your experience was with them, particularly in terms of value for quality, workmanship and timeliness. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated or if there are other builders you recommend. Thanks Susan Re: Building in Canberra 2Jan 01, 2013 2:20 pm Hi Susan We are also on a similar boat. Just exchanged on a land in Crace. We are looking to build a single storey and very much considering Matt smith (goldruby). Have you decided the builder now and has the building started? We have shortlisted 1. Goldruby 2. Classic constructions 3. Element design constructions Any feedback is appreciated H Re: Building in Canberra 3Jan 23, 2013 10:39 am Hi Susan, i am also building a house in crace, i went to all the big builder including classic construction/Rawson homes, but finally settled with Eminence currently renamed as Synergy, their website is http://www.synergybuilding.net.au, they are pretty transparent with their building process and also very flexible with the changes we have asked them for. Regards SM Re: Building in Canberra 4Feb 02, 2013 7:37 pm Hi boppis - we are at the stage of comparing quotes between BLD homes and classic constructions. I emailed Matt Smith and called him before xmas but I'm yet to hear back from him (we have been overseas for most of January as well so wasn't able to progress things). So far, I think Classic Constructions have been quite transparent with their processes and their quote is quite thorough. I'm going to give Matt another call and see what he can offer. Have you decided on a builder yet? Re: Building in Canberra 5Apr 29, 2013 11:26 am Hi SLeow. Just found this thread. How did you go with selecting a builder? We have started the process with Matt at Gold Ruby and was wondering if you ever got a hold of Matt in the end? Re: Building in Canberra 7Feb 24, 2014 7:46 pm I don't know these builders, except for Andara Homes. I am a client, and although it pains me to say it, you need to find another builder. Perhaps in a new company at a later date the builder will get his act together, but my experience has been disastrous, with broken promises and long time periods elapsing before anything at all happens. I know of one build that has taken two years so far, and sadly, my house will never be completedby Andara Homes. Too many tradies/suppliers are trying to get their money and I don't see how this business can survive. No new home buyer needs this. Go and ask the MBA for recommendations, and search everywhere in Google etc for reviews and clues about how a builder is going. Ask to speak to previous clients (don't rely on fanciful testimonials on websites, and don't do a drive - by of houses allegedly made by the builder ... they could belong to another company). Go as far as getting a CreditWatch report, and check for any evidence of litigation. If I had done all these things I would have chosen another builder. Wow I hadn't realised things had gotten that pricey in just a couple of years since I built, that is crazy with how much land is now costing if you aren't lucky enough to… 3 7327 go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 111280 |
