Thanks Re: Asha's HGWA build - Frangipanis 1424Sep 07, 2015 11:05 am asha Finally we have a splashback!! After bringing hundreds (well maybe not quite) of glass and tile samples home we discovered that because we practically built a glass box everything was sooo reflective that you would need sunglasses on to sit at the breakfast bar - we ended up with the exact same tile we had in our last kitchen. Plain ol' white with a ripple to "interrupt" the reflection if that makes sense. I have been keeping myself occupied the past 6-12 months drooling over other people's builds whilst waiting for ours to start (next month, hopefully). We have also chosen white cabinetry and arctic q-stone for our kitchen so it is great to see how good it looks in your house! Hope I love my kitchen as much as yours! My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: Asha's HGWA build - Tradie Dilema 1425Sep 07, 2015 12:08 pm Hey ash . Don't pay him . To bad if the job took a bit longer than he thought . Don't make him make you feel you can't look over the job and make sure it is all good . Once they leave they don't care . Good luck . Re: Asha's HGWA build - Tradie Dilema 1426Sep 07, 2015 6:29 pm xxkatxx Dont pay til hes finished and youre happy....we had our paver do a runner. We listened to his sob story and paid with still a days work to be done and he left his equipment at ours overnight. He snuck in very early in the morning when we were sleeping and grabbed his stuff. Never to be seen again. Dont do it...his problem not yours! Thanks xxkatxx I have a ** suspicion this may have been his plan. MalSannie We had the same with a tradie here in the UK, xxkatxx - sob story of his gran in hospital and then she died (!! I really really hope he didn't make this up but I'm afraid I wouldn't be surprised) - while he went off with our money never to return to finish off the job. It was very clever as you didn't want to intrude on a mourning family. But never again. It has made me really wary of tradies and online recommendations as he was highly recommended online. Stand your ground Asha and don't let him bully you. Sorry this has happened to you. Oh wow that is terrible - it makes me wonder how these people sleep at night. AKB Hi Asha Is it possible to have a friend over today? Someone to witness and also with a witness it might curb his bullying? Ps stick to your guns. Unless the job is huge and has lots of materials no one pays before the job is finished Unfortunately not at this short notice. Turns out he did the inlaws place a while back and was quite pushy with them but not about money. Melsie68 Hey ash . Don't pay him . To bad if the job took a bit longer than he thought . Don't make him make you feel you can't look over the job and make sure it is all good . Once they leave they don't care . Good luck . My thoughts exactly Melsie - if he xant quote properly then thats on him. Anyways I decided to be super nice (you catch more flies with honey). He turned up early for once -pulled his finger out and finished the job. There are a couple of pavers to adjust but nothing we cant sort out - I just wanted him gone. Anyways I paid him and he had the nerve to ASK for a carton of beer as well since we apparently got a bargain and he underquoted (sorry but $1925 for a 30 hr week for a job that doesnt require a trade cert is more than adequate). Anyway just glad to see the back of him. How did you mount/install the little poles that hold up the fence into the deck? Any closer pictures through the section at the end of the deck? You have a beautiful home to be very proud of. Re: Asha's HGWA build - Paving pics 1434Sep 07, 2015 8:45 pm Stop it asha super jealous of that pool area lol....coming along beautifully! Re: Asha's HGWA build - Paving pics 1435Sep 07, 2015 9:22 pm kellie_87 Sucks you had some dramas with the paving Asha but it looks fantastic Thanks Kellie. They are beautiful pavers - so smooth underfoot. Perth_Euro That does look great. How did you mount/install the little poles that hold up the fence into the deck? Any closer pictures through the section at the end of the deck? You have a beautiful home to be very proud of. Cheers Perth_Euro, the little poles (proper name spiggots) are attached to the deck with coach screws. We added slabs of jarrah into the deck framework so they have something substantial to bite into. Last I heard you were maybe getting a pool - any updates? Our next job is installing very tall privacy screens as you can probably remember how overlooked our place is. We have lovely neighbours but I am fairly certain they dont wanna see me in my bikini haha. Re: Asha's HGWA build - Paving pics 1440Sep 07, 2015 9:59 pm Looks great . I know what you mean . About just being happy his gone . I had a bit of a night mare with my concrete . He kept saying he just wonted me to be happy . Which I am . I won't to pay once all sealer dry so I could have s good look at it . But I just wonted him gone . Picked up on a few things not prefect . But hey that's the way of building these days lol . As long as it don't crack I'll be super happy . I also measured up less then him . And told him he could measure up again to make sure . He said he had enough of the whole thing lol . Wtf he had enough . He said as long as I was happy at the end of the day . Thinks his coming back to do my shed . Not in a heart beat . Made me happy . But what happened to get to the finish product shouldn't of never happened . The last home I lived in didn't have a pool and when i went to sell it the agents were not happy, even telling me to put one in to sell the place. The agents weren't happy… 2 4246 CDC Housing Code 3 When to apply Floor Area external face of wall vs Gross Floor Area internal face of wall.
