Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 42Apr 19, 2014 11:49 am Looking for some inspiration with our kitchen cupboards. Attached are our plans and a photo of our inspiration kitchen. We are going to turn the overheads and under bench into horizontal cupboards as per the inspiration photo. We are unsure how to manage the appliance cupboard as want this so the roller opens onto the bench from the side, rather than opening into the room as they have depicted. I had asked for overhead cupboards above this but not sure this will look good now given we want horizontal cupboards directly next to this. Also we are struggling with where to put the microwave recess, thinking under the island bench and maybe moved set of drawers next to dishwasher recess, but undecided how to make the best use of this space. We will look at display homes for more ideas today if they are open, but thought we'd open it up on the forum for any clever ideas you may have. We also changed the main light under the alfresco to a junction box at no cost so we sort our downlights and fans out after handover. Also have you thought about having your microwave in the pantry?? We deleted the third shelf on one side of the pantry and added a couple of power points for microwave, toaster, chargers etc. Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 44Apr 19, 2014 12:30 pm Sorry nictinic but I have just noticed that you have 800mm from the end of your island to you fridge recess. Being that your recess is 600mm deep most fridges would sit at least 100mm proud leaving only 700mm at best. If you have a single door fridge it would likely hit the island when you open it. If you have a double door you'll only have 300-400mm to get around and into the fridge. Hope this makes sense. Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 45Apr 20, 2014 9:39 am next to your WIP have an oven tower overhead cupboards microwave oven pot drawer under your hotplate have two pot drawers or have these things in your WIP kettle, toaster, microwave Yes I agree with asha about your fridge. my fridge with the door open is 1400mm long with it closed it's 700mm. my fridge is a LG top/bottom FR/FRZ hope we have been helpful Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 46Apr 28, 2014 11:59 pm Thanks asha and 2cupcakes, you make a good point re the fridge space to Island bench. We think we have worked out the microwave recess, we will put it under the island bench with a bot drawer beneath, with a long skinny cupboard on the end so we can stand up oven trays, so we don't have to fight getting them out all the time. Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 47Apr 29, 2014 11:52 am Kitchen looks great - similar kitchen to mine, we are having the same window splash back - excited! That was all I wanted in the house We put our microwave in the pantry because it's quite big and it moves it out of the way but if it works under the island that good too - i like the idea of the skinny cupboard for trays Providence Estate - Wellard, WA - Ventura https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68532 Pinterest (all selections): http://www.pinterest.com/aimees88/final-house-selections/ Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 48Apr 30, 2014 9:09 am Like your idea about putting it under the island bench .... But here's a thought, how tall are you?? Bending over everyday might bug you some. And when you have kids will they be tempted to keep pressing buttons?? I went with cupcakes idea of a wall stack, popped it in the opposite end of the bench from the fridge recess. Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 50May 01, 2014 9:07 pm How exciting .... Have an awesome day and don't second guess your decisions. Be prepared for the 'upsell' from the Prestart people but don't disregard them ... They will suggest things you haven't thought of and you will be grateful! Can't wait to see what you come up with!! Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 51May 01, 2014 9:32 pm Yay. I love prestart. I don't however love having to wait to get the prices back from it. Frustrating choosing things without actually knowing how much you're spending. Goodluck !! Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 53May 01, 2014 9:45 pm Some things they give you a rough idea but I found a lot I had to wait for. Definitely dangerous since you have no real sense of dollar value. Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 54May 01, 2014 11:34 pm nicitinic Thanks guys. Oh dear, so they don't tell you the prices as you go? Dangerous! We spent the morning busy busy, broke for lunch, then did the electrical plan. By the time we finished that, 90% of our prices had been costed & returned. We only ad three things we didn't have an answer on, got those the next day. You will leave with a fair idea on the day. If you get a good Prestart person, ask as you go and they should be able to give you a ballpark. Have fun!!!!! Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 55May 01, 2014 11:39 pm Hope you have a good prestart, we were given all our prices on the day so hopefully your not made to wait to long Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 56May 02, 2014 9:59 am Good luck or prestart today!!! It is annoying when they can't give you costings on the day...if you think you want something just include it an then you can edit and delete once you do get the final costings back if you need to have fun! Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 57May 02, 2014 10:42 am Wow pre start today!! I love that feeling you get in the morning on prestart day! Good luck enjoy the lunch and help your self to the coffee it's for everyone to use!! Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 58May 02, 2014 8:27 pm Thanks everyone! Day went really well, what a massive day! Nearly fell off my chair at the cost of overhead horizontal cupboards with gas struts in the kitchen. Dee and Marcia, from memory you both had these. Can I ask how they did yours as pretty sure you had both indicated yours were around $1500 and we quoted $3000! They said they are $ 498 per cupboard. We have three lots of double overhead cupboards. I questioned if it was cheaper to have one door that opens above (with a shelf rather than two separate cupboard doors) so one set of struts, which we have seen in some houses. They indicated this is more expensive, I can't understand how though. Any advice greatly appreciated! Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 59May 02, 2014 8:35 pm Nope not me!! I knew gas struts would be expensive so stuck with double doors. That's a whack out of the budget for sure! Wow!! I guess you have to consider is it really important to you. It's like me with my rendered walls on either side of the house ... Some people think we are mad, but for me, $3500 for the builder to do it under construction saves me the headache of finding someone to do it and keeps it seamless with the sides of the house. Glad you had fun today, how's the head feeling? Full of numbers?? Re: Nic & Ger's new home build - Home Group WA -Honeywood Es 60May 06, 2014 6:11 pm I will check my costings when I get home today but i actually am not sure now whether they have done it as one big cupboard door that sort of folds onto itself with a shelf or two seperate cupboards. I imagined it as one big door as thats how it was in the display home I asked them to copy it from but i didnt get them to specify. I'll look into it!! 4 14575 Can anyone recommend a good/affordable retaining wall and fence builder that I can get a quote from located in Sydney? 8 46366 |
