Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 29, 2014 1:12 am Hi All, Just realised the other day that the land that I've purchased (the land is not titled yet, but I've paid 10% & signed binding contract) apparently located downstream of a shared sewerage pipeline: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fyg0qxzf32xox ... %20map.jpg detailed info: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2723ptw2ki2hr ... 20flow.jpg Now my questions are: - Is this arrangement normal/acceptable? considering that the same sewerage pipe is actually shared by 9 (nine) other property in the block? - Are the sewerage pipe specs (height & diameter) correct? - What sort of issues that I might have to deal with in relations to this ? (eg. access to manhole, blockage, etc) - and lastly, who's actually responsible in maintaining this shared sewerage pipe? any plumbers / waterworks people comments welcome! Cheers!! Re: Shared sewerage pipe concern 2Jan 29, 2014 1:44 am The shared sewer is the financial responsibility of the properties that drain into it not you. The pipes appear adequate from the info on the plans. As you appear to have a manhole on your property there is some more information here: http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2013/03/manhole/ The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Western Water / Yarra Valley Water) in case there are issues with this shared sewer line (like blockage for example) ? Ta Re: Shared sewerage pipe concern 4Jan 29, 2014 12:33 pm You shouldn't be affected by a Blockage in the private line other than someone may want to come on your property to clean it. (Normally sewers are cleaned from the downstream manhole) The local water authority won't want to have to take any responsibility it will be the body corp of the other properties.
