Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 28, 2014 7:11 pm Hello All, Im currently building my first home (or trying to) the Inverness Alfresco with Hickinbotham at Tangari Estate in Two Wells. When i signed up for the house and land package on Feb 2nd 2013 i knew there would be a slight delay as the land was still being sub-divided. However it is now getting to the point where i am loosing my marbles at how long this is taking and would like to know if anyone else has had similar troubles or is this normal??? Ill post a quick time line below 2/2/13 - Build contract signed with Hickinbotham 1/7/13 - Land settled 18/8/13 - Selections Appointment 29/8/13 - Unconditional construction loan approval 4/12/13 - Full development approval from council 28/1/14 - House still hasn't even been released to construction When i first signed up for this house i was told it would be close to being completed by the end of 2013 all things going well, Its now almost Feb 2014 and a year since i first signed a build contract and i still don't even have a slab. Is this common for building? Had i known it was going to take this long i would of just bought an existing house. Re: Advice on first home build (how long is to long) 2Jan 28, 2014 7:45 pm Surely they should have been working behind the scenes between when you first signed the build contract in Feb & when the land settled in July? Our land isn't due to settle till march/April this year and we signed with Simonds Homes in October. We are pretty much ready to go as soon as the land is settled... The builder has just gone and done all the master plans, approvals etc whilst we wait for the land, why Hickinbotham hasn't done that is a mystery??? They were slow with paperwork back when I built with them years ago, but not that slow.. Thats probably delayed you a month more than necessary and its just unfortunate timing. I think slowness is also made worse by a lack of communication sometimes... Sorry to hear about your issues just have to persist! Re: Advice on first home build (how long is to long) 4Jan 29, 2014 11:18 am I'm surprised that council approval took so long, ours took about two weeks. When were all your plans/selections finalised? So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point.
