Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 26, 2014 8:13 pm We have just last week signed with Porter Davis to build the Oakdale 28 and we seemed to be happy with this choice. Our sales consultant advised that we should take the opportunity to visit Hopetoun Interiors so we can commence our colour selection identifications pre the colour selection appointments. Yesterday we went to Hopetoun to view what is available for us to select from and were surprised with what was on offer, especially the bathroom taps and shower selection. As we were leaving I asked one of the consultants whether what was offer were the only ones that Hopetoun had to offer or was there any further to select from. The advice provided was what was on offer is all that is available. I asked whether we can supply our own tape ware during the build process to be told NO and that if we wanted to supply our own that we should have gone we a boutique builder who would allow this to occur. I find it strange that a Porter Davis consultant would refer me to another builder to obtain what I want. This is our second build of a new home and with the first builder (Ashford Homes) they allowed us to provide our own appliances and tap ware. I am now considering whether we have made the right decision in building with Porter Davis as it seems that Hopetoun are not concerned with what the customer wants and how this can be achieved other than being recommended to look elsewhere. Has anyone else endeavored to supply their own appliances or tap ware? Re: Porter Davis homes 3Feb 07, 2014 12:09 pm We found the same thing too, but the initial sales consultant was up front about it. We wanted hydronic heating because our kids have asthma, and they refused to even just delete the brivis gas dusted system and put nothing in. It was a deal breaker for us, so we walked. Re: Porter Davis homes 4Feb 07, 2014 12:41 pm Deal breaker! I would walk away from it to be honest. We had issue with the first builder we went with. We went to our colour session to be told that certain colours were an upgrade!! and we hated all of the other standard colours, so we went with henley and they offered all of the colours we wanted as a standard range, then the upgrade colours were a lot cheaper then the previous builder. We also looked into Porter Davis, but their costs were just not worth it. I would honestly recommend looking into getting some quotes from other people. Will you get your deposit back?
