We are looking to build a house towards the end of the year and thought I would get any ideas before we go to an architect/engineer to finalise the plans. The property is near Mandurah, WA. The front of the house faces north east and we get a very good south west breeze.
I realise the house is large, however we 2 1/2 acres so space is not an issue.
The kids have all left home - just. We intend for this house to be our final move and have tried to allow for grandchildren in the future. We obviously enjoy entertaining so have got well sized areas for entertaining on both levels. Their are very nice views to the rear of the property which I have tried to maximise.
At this stage I intend to build the external walls using SIP panels and metal frame/gyprock for the internal walls. I also intend to use SIP panels for the roof. Information on SIPS can be contradictory and very confusing!
Style - Federation with bullnose verandahs all the way around at 2.4m wide. Aiming for the front to look something like below.
The second floor is intended to be a loft design and not noticeable from the front. The SIPS panel should provide enough insulation so that heat is not an issue.
EDIT to clarify: The picture of the rear of the house is from an American house. We both loved the style and want to copy and incorporate this into the rear of the house. Due to having the verandah and patio area we should be able to have a lot of glass on the ground floor without any heat issues from the sun.
We should end up with a house that looks very traditional from the front and a more modern style from the rear.
