Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 08, 2014 10:27 am Hi I have a friend building a new house and stuck with deciding on exposure grade bricks or not. for them, the requirement and brick upgrade to get the brick they want is really $3k I don't know enough about it so we though wed ask the friendly bunch on here. Now, on the tender it stated "upgrade to exposure grade brick etc due to being within 100m of river or 1km of rolling surf" We spent some time on google earth (what a fantastic tool that is) and found the following 294m from the proposed house location to the River 950m from the proposed house to the nearest part of the lake. Now there is a entrance that feeds this lake from the surf and the closest actual rolling surf is about 5.0km as the crow flies Based off this information, what would your thoughts be? mine are the exposure grade is not required, but i dont want to be blamed later lol thanks in advance. Re: Exposure Grade requirements, need help please. 3Nov 17, 2014 2:56 pm I can hazard a guess but it won't be accurate as i can't accurately answer your question. But i would think the same as you. 5km from surf is far enough. However, at only $3k, i would say go exposure grade. Failing that a chat to either the tech people at the brick company should be able to tell you or look at the specs of each on their websites. Something like here... http://australbricks.com.au/nsw/technic ... ade-brick/ Salt spray can also travel a fair distance. Re: Exposure Grade requirements, need help please. 6Nov 17, 2014 9:37 pm 5k from the beach and they should be OK. We're 1.2 km from a beach and we wouldn't be classified as a marine environment but on the odd occasion with a pounding surf and onshore winds we do get a small amount of salt spray.
