You'd probably find you could save a fair amount getting the glass splashbacks done independently after handover. Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 22Feb 01, 2014 10:06 pm Good list of inclusions and extras, pricing seems spot on to what we have been quoted. Can I ask what you got included with your NBN package ... this is the one that concerns us. Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 23Feb 02, 2014 12:49 am That is such a help thank you so much! Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 24Feb 02, 2014 12:52 am belzey Awesome Dee - I will be following very intently as our whole house is having a black, white and grey (silver) theme as well Oh yay belzey, glad we're not the only ones doing this colour combo! Can't wait to see how they turn out! oncewerefurriers Wow. You're going to have a great looking house. You'd probably find you could save a fair amount getting the glass splashbacks done independently after handover. Thanks oncewerefurriers - hopefully it all comes out looking like the version that's been in my head this whole time And thankyou for the tip about the splashbacks. Are you getting some installed after handover? We did look into getting this done but it only ended up being a couple hundred $ difference so we just went with it to save the hassle. Marcia Good list of inclusions and extras, pricing seems spot on to what we have been quoted. Can I ask what you got included with your NBN package ... this is the one that concerns us. I am the worst when it comes to understanding this side of it all Marcia - this was where my other half got his time to shine! The package includes 1 x D2 ( Phone + Internet Connection ). 2 x C1D1 ( TV + Smart TV or Network Connection ). NBN Enclosure. NBN Conduit. Digital cable to roofspace for future Antenna. Have you decided on the package you are getting yet? Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 25Feb 02, 2014 2:19 am Dee, Thought id pop over here and check out your thread. Looks like you have made good use of your block especially fitting a pool in, we have an acre and we are having to consider concrete to fit it in where we want. Will be keeping an eye on your build for sure. Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 26Feb 02, 2014 10:32 am asha Dee, Thought id pop over here and check out your thread. Checked out your plans and the pool will look amazing surrounded by your house, I love having a great view of a pool from inside Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 27Feb 02, 2014 1:07 pm dee_77 oncewerefurriers Wow. We're getting one installed after handover. Most people on H1 have said they saved several hundred dollars (up to 1000's in some cases). I think it depends on size and shape too. We didn't even ask for a price from our builder. With the builders mark-up of over 30% we're pretty sure that it works out cheaper doing it ourselves. Rockingham glass gave us the best price. Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 28Feb 02, 2014 5:13 pm It all sounds gorgeous. Can't wait to see pictures of the final product. It's going to be amazing. Is the jarrah glosswood for the alfresco? Not that bad a price. We haven't asked yet, I've just assumed it's ridiculous but I'll definitely ask. Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 29Feb 02, 2014 6:16 pm we are doing our splashback after handover, but HGWA said we need to have one row tiles for the 6 star rating. we are going to have the tile on loosely and then take them off Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 30Feb 03, 2014 3:52 pm How exciting to have a pool.. even if the slab is taking awhile, least the pool has progess. I think its too late now to make changes though. Do you think they would charge a variation fee if you delete something rather than add something? We haven't asked yet, I've just assumed it's ridiculous but I'll definitely ask. The Jarrah glosswood ceiling is for the portico ardie514. We thought about it for the alfresco but we have a recessed ceiling there so decided to leave it. But it would look lovely for sure! 2-cupcakes-pls we are doing our splashback after handover, but HGWA said we need to have one row tiles for the 6 star rating. we are going to have the tile on loosely and then take them off Homegroup is making us have one row of tiling in our laundry too as we are doing tiling after handover. I guess I understand why you cant but its annoying that you cant get people in to complete these things during the build - would make like a whole lot easier! Who are you getting your splashbacks through? Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 32Feb 03, 2014 4:30 pm Nicci How exciting to have a pool.. even if the slab is taking awhile, least the pool has progess. Goodluck with the build. Thanks Nicci. We are really excited to have the pool and it will definitely be worth it in the end. Being help up quite a bit though, looks like no slab for another 2 weeks... All the waiting drives you crazy doesnt it! Hope everything moves along quickly with your build now - at least the finish line is in sight! But you may save enough to negate the variation fee. You'd have to see what HGWA charge and how much you'd save. Variation fees are a great earner for builders. Particularly this early in the build when they haven't even started ordering stock. Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 34Feb 07, 2014 9:48 am Yes well the many different ways they try to make money off you for nothing is extremely frustrating! Will see how we go, I have a list of about 5 things I thought about changing so may do it in one hit. We're having huge dramas with the pool at the moment so construction hasn't gone anywhere for the last 3 weeks. Fingers crossed next week we have liftoff! That's not good news about the pool, hopefully it all gets sorted soon!! Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 36Feb 16, 2014 8:12 pm Looking forward to following your thread. Nice plan and love that you able to get a pool in. Still undecided on this myself but it seems like a good idea getting it done now. Love your colour selection we are going with the same sort of feel. Prestart numbers always help, I am planning for mine on Friday and have no idea how I am going to stick to any sort of a budget! We were all about "how can we design our house to get a bobcat in for the pool afterwards?" Prestart numbers always help, I am planning for mine on Friday and have no idea how I am going to stick to any sort of a budget! Thanks aimee! We really had no choice other than to put the pool in first otherwise we would have no way for the bobcat to get in the backyard and dig the hole once our fences were up! But is has caused a lot of headaches since.. Best of luck for your prestart tomorrow, just take in a list with you and tick things off as you go, that way you feel confident you have remembered everything J+C HGWAbuild I really like your thinking. That's awesome that you had the pool put in beforehand to save all the hassle of trying to put it in post build. We were all about "how can we design our house to get a bobcat in for the pool afterwards?" Exactly what we thought J+C! It would have been a nightmare...although it has caused a lot of issues and delayed us by over 4 weeks now...make sure you chat to HomeGroup about it if you are planning on installing one prior and be VERY clear. I will post a separate update below to explain what has happened with our build. Hopefully everyone can learn from our problems and we can save you some headaches later on! Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 39Feb 20, 2014 8:41 pm Okay so I FINALLY have an update to post on here - hallelujah! After over 4 whole weeks of our poor pool sitting there with this huge gaping hole next to it and no progress the issue has finally been resolved! It took them over a month to get this sorted. The problem stemmed from them not having/collating all the information they needed. Apparently HomeGroups policy is that they do not allow installation of fibreglass pools prior to construction, only concrete pools. Although I think this also depends on the location of the pool in relation to your house. In our case the pool is extremely close! This never came up in the last 12 months of planning which is very strange. They insisted we had told them it was a concrete pool, which we never did. I actually backtracked and found our emails which showed us explaining all the details of the pool, how it was being installed prior to handover etc etc. So they are taking full responsibility for any damages to the pool and custom building a pool cover which they can work off of to build the house! YAY! Hope this helps anyone planning on installing a pool before or after construction. Make sure to be very clear and triple check everything to avoid delays down the track! Anyway we got a call from our slab supervisor yesterday letting us know that our concrete footings will be complete next Tuesday, and our slab is going down on Wednesday 26th!!!! Cant wait!!!! Hopefully they work extra hard to make up all this time they have wasted on our build. It is now officially over 6 months since our pre-start meeting....time for another glass of wine I think! Re: Dee & Dan's First Home Build - HomeGroupWA in Piara Wate 40Feb 20, 2014 8:46 pm WOW 6 months since prestart!!!!!! here i am thinking that wanting 3 months is too long! i think you need a bottle of wine! have you used any of the motorised curtain systems available from Ebay?
