Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 18, 2014 11:26 pm Other than internal painting, flooring and window treatments, what parts of your build can you opt out and do yourself after handover? Does it end up cheaper than the builder doing it? Can you do items like shower screens, vanities, kitchen bench?? Thanks! Painting involves finishing off any imperfections from joins in plaster, nail holes from fixing etc. So many builders won't let you do your own painting as it ends up looking bad for them if it looks crap if you do it yourself. Not saying you will do it yourself, but them leaving it for you to organise after handover leaves that opportunity. Personally I'd let them do it, keep in to one main colour you want used. Then get someone in after (or DIY) afterwards to do the bits you want different. You probably won't save much by them not doing it - probably would only get a pittance back. Actually quite a few don't include it, maybe it's a WA thing?
