Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 16, 2014 1:36 pm Hi We are going to be building a highly modified Daydream 32 with Coral homes and are about to go to tender stage. We are also incorporating a "granny flat" extension to the house for my parents. We have been making lots of changes to the plan and i was just hoping to get some feedback/ further ideas. Our block is 829 sm at Upper Kedron in Brisbane First time adding a link so I hope I do this correctly! http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/ac30 ... 47e04d.jpg Any feedback good or bad is welcome Re: Feedback re our plan 2Jan 16, 2014 1:48 pm We had similar thoughts of a room (not a granny flat like yours) in our house plan. We put the parent at the front of the house so they could come and go as they pleased as opposed to having to come all the way through. Your current plan is very similar to our current house minus the granny flat - the only problem in reflection I have of our house is the massive amount of hallway - because we wanted the entrance to the bedrooms at the front and the back. Possibly putting minor bedrooms at the front reduces this. May not be needed now . . . . . but in the future? They look a bit narrow. ( http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2012/01/accessible-design/) The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Feedback re our plan 5Jan 16, 2014 5:09 pm Hi so excited to see your plan. We are building a daydream 28 (modified) asw ell. I just love the daydream plan so much. Looking at your plan there are a few things I notice that worry me. Are you going MSP on this build or are they waiting until contract to do working drawings??? You need to make sure it will fit within setbacks with the modifications. Our block is 670m2 so jealous of your extra space. Ok so here is my two cents for what its worth lol. First I would be thinking about the kitchen. Remembering that the bench is onky 4m long at the back and you have alot jammed in there consider how much space you will have on either side of the cooktop. Also i though of putting the frdige space in the pantry too but you need to be careful as you camt open the doors all the way if it is built against a wall like that. Also consider that modern fridges are deeper and sit out from standard 600mm deep davities quite a bit. Also the elevation looks nice but you wpnt be able to have a window in the walk in robe if there is a shelf there?? I would also consider where the door will open to? It will need to be closed to allow access to all the shelves. Maybe sliding doors would be a better option. Have you been to see the dispkay in toowoomba? This is what they do there. I agree that it would be better to have your parents room at the front you could even include a seperate entry door that way. Something to think about for wheelchair access as it is easier then as well. Re: Feedback re our plan 6Jan 16, 2014 8:38 pm Thanks so much the feedback everyone. Definitely food for thought. Nicko especially good point re the fridge door openings in the pantry. We have a big double fridge at the moment and we have just realised what we planned wont work as door won't open far enough. So I am going back to the drawing board re the kitchen plan. We may have to leave pantry door as per original coral plan, but I am just not to keen on it we did go to the Toowoomba display a while back so we may need to have another look at it. Re: Feedback re our plan 7Jan 16, 2014 9:54 pm Looks nice. I agree a separate entrance for granny flat would be ideal but obviously may not be possible. Not sure you'd have that minor bedroom door opening right at the loo. Might be nicer opening on to the hallway. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Feedback re our plan 8Jan 17, 2014 12:57 pm I know how you feel about the pantry, my husband wants to keep the kitchen as standard but I like the idea of moving the door to the bench side.. The sales consultant says at least half of builds do this. But it is a flaw in the design the cooktop bench is just not long enough to have a large RFS that modern fridges need without taking up too much bench space. The display at Toowoomba only had a 900mm cavity which is just not big enough for most fridges. I think we,ll just end up leaving it as standard although I wish our block would allow us to add another 1000mm down the centre of the house to solve the problem but thats not possible. Naaah, dredging-up a dead 7-month-old thread and then "seamlessly" segueing into a recommendation for a company ... totally kosher! Hi there! Absolutely agree on the wasted space. We have no desire for the master to be that oversized, but it occurred when we increased the depth of the garage. We have… 4 12498 6 55346 |
