Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 13, 2014 2:04 pm We're just about to embark on our first property purchase in Australia. After looking around for a good while have decided that only by building are we going to get the house we want. We've finally found a block of land in an established estate, the last empty block on the street. There are already highsets on either side and their boundary fences have been up for at least two years. The block is a reasonable size (just over 900 sqm) and flat. We've spoken to some builders and have a good idea of the design and size of house we want. Now we're getting serious about making an offer what do we do? We'd previously bought land and built in NZ but this is our first purchase in Australia. Has anyone got advice on how to proceed with the offer? what sort of searches do we do? there are some preliminary soil results from the previous owners but it looks like the ground needs to be compacted - how much could that cost? Do we get a land valuation done? We're already exploring finance with a broker. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions to come but any help you could offer now would be very welcome. 2 4367 Hi, does anyone have a clue how the Brisbane Development website work in terms of how uptodate the dates on it are (developmenti.brisbane.qld.gov.au).
