Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 11, 2014 11:16 am Hi, Happy New Year to all!! These forums are fantastic for understanding a lot of the building terminology that keeps me up at night. We are nearing the handover phase with our dual occupancy development in Victoria, and (amongst other issues/defects found) we have noticed very faint plaster join lines all over both houses. Does anyone know the law with plaster join lines, and whether they can be fixed by the builder before handover has been completed? I'm not sure how to approach the builder with this "issue", and all of my other issues. Kind Regards, homesaw Re: Plaster Joins Visible & Handover 2Jan 11, 2014 12:21 pm There are a couple of reasons for this: Glanced Light For an explanantion see; http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2012/04/gla ... rfections/ Different absorbency of the board and the joint filler. With many builders using spray painting there is often not enough paint to hide the join. Sometimes a roller applied extra coat of paint will improve things. Re: Plaster Joins Visible & Handover 3Jan 11, 2014 2:15 pm Thanks for the quick reply (as this is quite distressing to me), and expertise. What if I can feel a very slight bump/rise where each plaster join is see-able? Do I have a right for him to get these problems fixed before hand-over, or am I meant to tough it out? When they say full light in the article, would that mean seeing the rooms in daylight without the lights turned on, with the lights turned on, or at night with the lights turned on (being artificial full light)? Re: Plaster Joins Visible & Handover 4Jan 11, 2014 3:38 pm Full light means light shining directly at the join rather than at an angle. Normally the worst lighting for making ceiling joints more apparent is daylight (from the window) with no internal lights on. If you can feel a bump that is bad workmanship and should be fixed before handover. Fixing it later will create a mess. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
