Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 07, 2014 2:07 pm Hi! Long time reader, first time poster with an urgent question, and I hope you guys could help me out! We just got our land, and had it excavated, and in the process of leveling it, about 10 loads of fill (predominantly shale) was added, but now, (same person doing the job), they've informed us that we have TOO much fill, and about 6-8 loads needs to be removed which will cost us around $4k. If possible, could we potentionally find something cheaper than $4k? We're trying to save as much as possible at this early stage! Thanks! Thomas Re: Land Excavation question! 2Jan 07, 2014 2:46 pm There are websites where you can advertise your fill but I can't remember the name (google will tell you). You may get lucky and find someone in your area who is looking to fill a swimming pool or the like. You will need to pay for the excavator and truck to deliver the fill but you may not have to pay the disposal fees. Good luck with it. Re: Land Excavation question! 3Jan 07, 2014 8:54 pm ask local builders if they need fill also advertise and check around your area Re: Land Excavation question! 4Jan 07, 2014 9:04 pm So the people that sold you 10 loads of shale, and you paid to add it, are telling you that they overcharged you by between 3 and 5 times the amount needed? Not only that, they now want to charge you to take away their mistake? I think you'd be within you rights to tell them to remove at their own cost. Re: Land Excavation question! 5Jan 07, 2014 9:08 pm Its builders fault, ask them to remove it. or Advertise in gumtree website... free add Re: Land Excavation question! 6Jan 07, 2014 10:18 pm Im in the wrong profession, should have been a builder!
