Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 21Jul 02, 2014 7:48 pm Yeah they did have a pretty good deal on Colorbond but the Mrs likes tiles and thus we have tiles. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 22Jul 08, 2014 3:42 pm Finally got the call today. Cutting the block as we speak. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 24Jul 09, 2014 11:24 am We will probably have 250+ ton to remove at around $20 a ton, so around $5000. Ouch. You got a price? Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 25Jul 09, 2014 9:44 pm Yeah called a few and $20 seems to be it. Did anything happen with the cutting of your block or did this weather delay things? We were told a few weeks ago ours would be cut weather permitting, and so far only a bit has been done with it but no actual cutting yet. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 26Jul 09, 2014 11:34 pm Have not had the chance to visit the block so not sure... said they were cutting though. Will visit on Friday to check it out. Like you said though the weather has not helped the last few weeks. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 28Jul 21, 2014 3:57 pm Fantastic. Hope to have ours cut this week. Has been flattened and is ready to go. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 30Aug 05, 2014 11:33 am Thanks for the offer, soil has been removed and finally got a slab yesterday. Pretty damn happy! Not sure how long they leave it before work starts. Guessing a month maybe. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 31Sep 16, 2014 11:40 am Still no frame. How about you Anubiz? Should be this week... Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 32Sep 21, 2014 8:21 pm Yeah frame went up last week and windows went in some time in the last 5 days, it's so awesome to be able to actually see our design and changes come together. We also have our gutters delivered so hopefully the roof will be done this week. We actually went there today and I think your frames are also up now. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 33Sep 23, 2014 1:25 pm Was nothing but a slab on Monday, by Wednesday the frame was done. Windows in a week, hopefully that'll be true for us too. You're not wrong about how awesome it is to see the shape of the house. Walking through the house is fun. Always hard to know if you done the right thing with window sizes and placement, I think we got it right. No obvious things where I say "should have put this .....". Though the Mrs wishes a door lined up differently. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 34Oct 01, 2014 10:35 pm Yeah, we have a door that I kind of wish I changed to a sliding door but that's about it. We made a change that cost us $500 but after seeing it, it was definitely worth it. Looks like our roof should be going up sometime this week, the gutters are now done, as well as the water and gas pipes. Do you have anyone to do your stormwater yet? Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 35Oct 01, 2014 11:04 pm We had our fascias done the other day, gutters are probably done but not checked it out yet. Still no roofing stuff delivered, hopefully next week. Have no-one to do stormwater yet. We need some retaining/fencing/concreting, no doubt while they are there with equipment they will do it for a good price. Friends have done it themselves in the past, but is a hell of a lot of work to save a bit of cash. Plus, I'm not very handy haha. We have started to get quotes for pergola/concrete/fencing/retaining... to see how much we are in for. No idea how much these things cost really, the answer is always LOTS though it seems. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 37Nov 16, 2014 6:15 pm Hi, i am building in the woodcroft Horizon estate. I was actually told this forum existed today while talking to someone who will be living on the same street as me. I have had many frusterations with Fairmonts. The first started with the lady who did the final builders interview. Worst customer service in Adelaide. She completely forgot who was the customer in this meeting, and what was worst is I had to go see her twice. The number of times i almost had it out with her I lost count. Rude, abrupt, arrogant would be some of the words to describe her. Unfortunately, I expect most people have had to deal with her. If i can offer any advice, make sure you attend this meeting with someone who has a stern personality and won't put up with b*llsh*t or Fairmont Home excuses from her. I would also go one step further to say, this doesnt actually have to be your 'final' builders interview. Everything only comes together at this interview, and you are placed on the spot to decide if you are going to sign for all variations etc. What i did was sit on it for a couple of weeks then sign away, the lady will get the sh*ts about it, but don't worry its your house, your investment and its not a cheap one you are making. The second issue, and to the Project Managers credit, he cannot help it, there is only one Project Manager looking after all the fairmont home builds for all south of adelaide, i.e. south tce to as far as rapid bay. Guess what, all those houses in Woodcroft Horizon is included. Your house is treated as a batch of houses, and not single as a single entity, so he will approve a work package for a number of houses at a time. This doesnt make for an efficient build time for your house. You can virtually throw the 16 week build time out the windows. Even 6 months can be thrown out the Window. 8-9 months is what you should expect. After speaking to a few people, what i have been for my house and for a few others, is that Fairmonts sit on there backsides for a number of weeks, then all of a sudden in 2 days your timber frame will be up, then nothing for 3 weeks then bricks will be up and you will also have gyprock. Each different section of the house is performed by a different of tradesmen, and they do their work extremely quickly. The build of the timber frame was absolutely shocking. Looking at all the joins on my timber frame, there were so many nails that did not make it through to the adjoining timber. It is still a sturdy house, but christ the word quality should not appear in Fairmont Homes brochure. Someone asked about removal of soil, SA Slabs who did my slab removed it all for $11/ton which was the best price i could find, still steep and set me back $4600 for 290 tonne of soil removal. If i can give out any advice get your site completely cut back, including your backyard, its a pain to do it after. I had to ring the project manager and ask about storm water, and say why havent i got it like everyone else has when there slab was poured. He said i didnt have it and i replied with "check the paper work". He had two different sets of paper work, one with stormwater on there, the other without. To his credit, he immediately got on top of it, however i still dont have storm water. He noted this would have been an issue with the person who did the final builders interview and not completing the paperwork correctly internally.. remember me mentioning her earlier?? I did a walk around through my house this week and there are a number of items forgotten about by the electricians, i will be bringing this up immediately. I believe my handover will be in december, but i wont be holding my breathe. The worst thing is when you are spending between $320-450k for house and land from the same group is that you shouldnt have to feel like you are managing them, chase progress, chase down minor details you have already signed in your contract. Nether the less, the house is good, they are an 'everybodies' house, they build in quantity then quality. Happy to answer others questions. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 38Nov 16, 2014 6:51 pm You are not alone with the frustration towards Fairmont Homes. Finals Builders Interview - It did seem very forced. Fortunately we came into the meeting with a bunch of questions, my wife works in an affiliated industry and knows what she wants, and that it can be done (even if Fairmont say they can't.). Project Manager - Had a couple of talks to him, like you said he is extremely busy and pushed to the limit, but he's still a rude ****. We had an issue that they didn't do some of the work we had in our contract, in response he asked us to draw up what we want and send it to him... special much. 9 month build time, consisting of 2 months of actual work. 2 years from the time we went into Fairmont Homes the first time. Workmanship - So far we are happy with everything, but my friend who built with them had big issues and they had to tear down a large portion of the house. Naturally it took a lot of convincing before they conceded they stuffed up. I have had a look at our neighbours brickwork, some of it is very questionable. Customer Service - I don't think they know what it is. They have only ever called me to ask for more money, which got a prompt reply... All in all I can see why people often say they would never build again. I am now one of them. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 39Nov 24, 2014 9:19 am Met your neighbour yesterday Anubiz. Re: Building with Fairmont Homes / RealtySA @ Woodcroft Hori 40Dec 08, 2014 8:19 pm Hi, I have enjoyed aspects of it but I also don’t think I will ever build again, way too many delays, our house it as lock up and we have a lot of our kitchen and cupboards in but we are still waiting for our bricks to go up, it makes no sense to me. I’m really hoping it’s done before the Christmas shut down. We met out left hand neighbour recently also seems really nice and has her handover tomorrow, (8/12) I think we are still 3 months way. Have they given you an estimate on yours yet? Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74700 I would never build with Fowler homes.
