Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 05, 2014 8:10 pm Just after some opinions and ideas from fellow home builders One of the benefits of building, particularly if you are waiting on a land title like myself, is that you have a bit of time up your sleeve in waiting for everything to happen. On Australia Day it will be 1 year since we signed off on our block and it still hasn't titled yet. We are patiently waiting through a few delays and hoping for the land to title by March this year. Apart from saving money (we are renting cheaply), I am wondering what things people have done, if any, while they wait for their build. Did you shop for furniture and homewares in the sales and store away? Did you buy some immature plants? Or did you just look at some ideas of how you might do things when the day comes? I am finding the wait very difficult but I also like to be organised and prepared. I feel like we could be doing something with all this time we spend waiting for the land to title and building to start. Would love to know what other people have done! Apart from saving money, I have kept my spirit up by window shopping and creating idea books to capture the design I am after in my first house. I've also been tracking down quotes for things I want- paving, cat door, air con etc and building myself a "to do" list. Also this forum has kept me entertained and excited about the build too! We fussed about with the house plans and finding the right builder for what seemed like an eternity! We were kept busy with house selections and contracts up until November .. Now I am just slowly moving through the house visually and making plans for things like blinds, curtains, decorative things etc. Now I'm on to gardens and landscaping plans I move through and have little research "projects" to keep me entertained and well, sane! Or maybe it drives me a bit insane? Some days I don't know. Haha I have a stack of quotes for things like the deck and verandah, driveway and paths to go and get so the bank will be satisfied... I need to get on to that within the next few weeks, so researching where to go and who to speak to is what's mainly taking up my time at the moment! Then window shopping, I recently found a clearance center for Miele, you'd be suprised what bargains are there, I also discovered quite a few appliances that were near what we're after but offer better specifications for power usage or performance... It's enough time for builder to prepare the tender and documents for council. Re: What are you doing while you wait? 7Jan 06, 2014 10:40 am We had decided on the house before the block so all our things with the builder happened pretty quickly! In a way I wish we could have used the time house shopping Our last appointment with builder was in May so it has been a while with not much to keep us occupied. I have collected loads of ideas on Pinterest and we have shopped for things but not bought much because of having to store it. It will be so exciting to have site start to finally see some things start happening! We've got enough to set it up but want to get new stuff delivered there and not have to move it so will wait until we are moved in before we shop. Definitely saving as much as we can in the mean time and looking on Pinterest and Houzz. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64434 Building our own custom design based on the Elwood by Dale Alcock Land settled - November Plans submitted to council - January Prestart - March Slab - 18 September Brickies - 23 October Re: What are you doing while you wait? 9Jan 06, 2014 3:13 pm If you haven't got one start a worm farm. Re: What are you doing while you wait? 10Jan 06, 2014 8:47 pm we purchased a heap of ornamental grass and palm tree seeds of ebay and have been attempting to grow plants for our new garden its a very slow process with limited success but seeing as the paper work side of our build has almost dragged out to a year its kept me occupied. I have also been shopping for bargains and our office its rapidly filling up with nice new things for our new house. 1 13040 Hello everyone Please advice me how can I install mesh security window or we cab say mesh flyscreen inside while the pvc plantation shutters are already installed?
