Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Take Two - Calleya WA - Brick Laying Finished (sort of) 608Jul 20, 2015 11:52 pm chadtyn I think the name "Quendalup" devalues our area. After reading the rules for naming suburbs, we came up with this: Oxley Park - Named after James Oxley - Quote: Surveyor James Oxley in 1889 recorded the names of two water features as 'Lake Bangup' and 'Bangdown Swamp'. Exactly who gave these features their unusual names is unknown and only one of these names was shown on maps, ie 'Bangup Lake'. Land for the Armadale - Jandakot Railway link was resumed in 1907 and a station was constructed. The station was located 3.6km north of 'Bangup Lake' and was named 'Banjupp'. This is presumed to be a corruption of the original name of the lake. The name 'Banjupp' was used until the 1930s when the spelling was amended to Banjup. And the "park" part of the name is for the "bushland forever" left in the area, plus...... it sounds better What do you guys think? Any other suggestions? It's far better than anything the council has come up with.. though i still kinda prefer Banjup over Oxley Park. Though i do like the meaning behind the name. From doing some more reading - common names that apparently imply prestige. - Vista - Waters - Heights - Lakeside - Bella - Park/Parklands - Rise - Heights In keeping with the areas history, something around either the water mound or the sand quarry could work. Re: Take Two - Calleya WA - Brick Laying Finished (sort of) 609Jul 21, 2015 12:10 am elemist .. though i still kinda prefer Banjup over Oxley Park I 100% prefer to stay as Banjup. I think "North Banjup" would work also. Re: Take Two - Calleya WA - Brick Laying Finished (sort of) 610Jul 21, 2015 12:35 pm Hi I would also oppose to the proposed name for several reasons and made my research about Banjup for suitable suburb names. I'll write a letter to Mr D. Green and will suggest my list. My list includes all possibilities as per point 7.1.1 in the Landgate rules for suitable names. * Fraser ( surveyor along side Oxley in this area) * Oxley * Carnaby ( Fauna which can be found in that area) * Callitris ( Flora in that area) * Highham ( first Mayor of Cockburn) * Middleton ( considering the Banjup WW1 veterans which lost there live in the war. Middleton beach were the last Australian soil which they left behind. Also, the war memorial would be in that new suburb.) * Rosea ( which has been suggested by the elder Trevor Walley and would cover a indigenous name in my list) Other option could be: North Banjup; Dolatis ( latin for quarry) All those names could be easily combined names mention by elemist. Re: Take Two - Calleya WA - Brick Laying Finished (sort of) 612Jul 26, 2015 11:55 pm So how do we (future residents of Calleya) can vote against this name change? Do we get to vote? This name change will definitely affect our estate in future..I am not against heritage or culture but the name should sound attractive and notable. Looking at the south corridor we are in, anything containing to parks, heights, rise etc would suit nicely. No idea unfortunately. I think it was on the form that i've already returned. Maybe give the council a call and ask? On another note - has everyone received their rates in the post? Hi elemist, I've received the invoice for council rate, but since I opted for paperless, hence received it via email, instead of post. The rates are still for vacant residential, although I've been living in my house since 14th april. I think they will send an adjustment later. Did you have to install an outdoor TV antenna? In my house, one TV point works, but the other does not. I asked Intelligent Homes and they advised to install an outdoor TV antenna. Can anyone give me the reference of a good, cheap TV antenna installer? 2. I need to build a gate to my side fence. The quote I received from the fencing installer is pretty high. Can anyone recommend someone else? Thanks in advance... Joe, it depends on your certifier but we are noticing the ones we deal with are really cracking down.
