Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Who is entitled to leftover bricks? 21Nov 13, 2008 3:00 pm We've just moved in our new house (build by AV Jennings). AV Jennigns have a cr*p policy of not giving their building supervisor's mobile number. So any communication, we had to go thru the girls in the office. the first time we could talk to our supervisor was on the walkthru day!!!
We told one of the girl (who was looking after our file) to keep the left over bricks, but it never got to the supervisor, and he removed them all. We never got the bricks back.... When escalated teh matter further... we were told to read in the contract that all the unfinished material is builder's property.. but i do believe we paid lumpsum for all the unfinished material too.... Nehow building with them was a very very bad experience.... left over bricks were only 0.2% of the total problems we had. Re: Who is entitled to leftover bricks? 22Nov 13, 2008 3:46 pm Not having direct contact to your supervisor is just wrong and not a good way to run a building company. A good relationship and communication with the supervisor is essential as they are the people that make sure everything is done correctly. Our current builder in Western Australia has this same policy, even harder considering the girl in the office has changed three times in the last 6 weeks. Cant wait til its all over, never again with this builder!! Re: Who is entitled to leftover bricks? 25Nov 14, 2008 8:42 am Our builder told us the first contact person is SS during the construction phase. We asked our SS to keep the left over bricks and spend the last whole weekend to move 1.5k bricks to the backyard. Re: Who is entitled to leftover bricks? 27Nov 14, 2008 8:59 am Kexkez, that was great thinking on your part.
From discussions with our Contract Supervisor if we want to keep leftover bricks if leftovers are in significant amounts (like whole pallets etc) then we'd have to negotiate a price to buy it off the builder (saving them removal etc anyway). Re: Who is entitled to leftover bricks? 28Nov 14, 2008 9:33 am Our SS told us if we moved it we could keep it, so we had two pallets left, got sick of moving them after one, so thought that will do, yet when they did the site clean our SS told them not to remove the other pallet, we now have both!
Def speak to your SS, if you can! Re: Who is entitled to leftover bricks? 30May 15, 2009 10:31 am We haven't got to the brick stage yet but I wondered who is responsible for clearing the excess stuff from the sight, we have just had our slab poured (last Monday) and we assumed the footing contractor would remove the left over mesh/steel bars/pallet etc etc but they are still there, from the paperwork it mentioned we are responsible for removal of any excess soil from footings, they did a great job and there is probably only a few wheel barrows full mostly from when the plumbers did their thing. I'd be interested in others experience with this type of thing.
