Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 23, 2013 9:10 pm Hello, We are building in QLD. We have the option of having our living areas outlooking towards north - facing neighbours. The neighbours land hasn't built yet. The distance is 12m from the living area to the boundary. These neighbours will have to set back 3 metres as sewerge lines runs just inside their boundary. To the west of our section is the end portion of the lake. We don't see the lake from our property but the western end will have no neighbours, it is free, empty land forever - easement. BUT it will bring in the western sun, if we change the living outlook to face the west - where we don't potentially have neighbours right there in front of us. Which is worse? Angling house towards west or north towards potential neighbours (very low probability of dbl storey..but still a possibility). Re: Which is worse - Outlook: Western sun OR Northern neighb 3Dec 24, 2013 11:25 am Thanks, I am worried about the potential of a house being that close visually. Is it better to face north with the house in our visual (all be it, with some trees blocking as much of the neighbour's house as possible) versus facing west and not have any houses in our visual. Which do people in general think is the lesser evil? Thanks Re: Which is worse - Outlook: Western sun OR Northern neighb 4Dec 24, 2013 12:37 pm You could have a 5m hedge on your boundary which should block the view of your neighbour without losing any winter sun. Re: Which is worse - Outlook: Western sun OR Northern neighb 5Dec 24, 2013 4:12 pm Thanks! Not too worried about the sun as we are in Hervey Bay just the visual of the neighbours. But the table was awesome nonetheless! Re: Which is worse - Outlook: Western sun OR Northern neighb 7Dec 26, 2013 9:31 am Having grown up in the inner city I can understand why you don't want to be looking at your neighbours but I think its the lesser of two evils. Having a west facing window in a family room would be too much for me and my air con. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Which is worse - Outlook: Western sun OR Northern neighb 8Dec 26, 2013 6:24 pm tradershez PS I would like to attach our site plan, how exactly do I do that on my reply post? Use an external site (like photobucket etc) and upload the plan. Then download from the site by copying the forum code given by the site. Paste the code that's between the [IMG] brackets. You can test it out to make sure it works by using preview before you submit. And personally I think western sun is not good unless you have verandahs, window tinting etc. As someone else has said you can always screen out neighbours (except for dble storey of course.) But northern sun needs careful planning too... The alternative is to grow the carpentry business, never learn formwork, and use the funds generated to career 1 773 Hi, I am wondering if anyone has built with Montgomery in the last few years on the Northern Beaches?
