Browse Forums Building A New House Re: colour bond vs tiled roof price ? 2Dec 19, 2013 7:39 am Wazza78 Hi guys just wondering if someone can explain to me why it cost more for a colour bond roof then a titled roof ?. For starters i would think colour bond would be so much easyer and quicker to install It doesn't, always. However volume builders get the biggest bulk discount on the stuff they buy the most of. If you're being quoted extra for Colourbond, it's quite likely that most of that builder's houses are built with tiles & they've negotiated a bigger discount for tiles than they could/can on Colourbond. So it's not so much that you're paying extra, think more that with the tiles you get a bigger discount. If you were to go to a custom builder & start from scratch, you'd find costs pretty similar for tiles or Colourbond. Re: colour bond vs tiled roof price ? 3Dec 19, 2013 8:06 am The biggest cost difference for a colourbond roof is the BASIX required insulation blanket that sits underneath it, some $4,000 - $5,000 Re: colour bond vs tiled roof price ? 4Dec 19, 2013 8:39 am MadamImAdam The biggest cost difference for a colourbond roof is the BASIX required insulation blanket that sits underneath it, some $4,000 - $5,000 Seconded. So if u have been quoted a 3-5k to upgrade to colorbond you are being ripped off. Tiles are more expensive then colorbond in general so think twice about what u have been quoted. Apparently it depends on what discounts the builder's get (bigger the builder bigger the discount). We were under the impression that colorbond and tiles cost the same if not colorbond was actually cheaper - just don't get me started it's a bit of a sore point with me. The builder should be able to give you a breakdown of the cost. Our builder gave us this breakdown of the cost back in Sept 2012 - hope it helps: “Additional Cost for Colorbond Roof in Lieu of Standard Bristile Roof Tiles: Extra Over for Colorbond in Lieu of Roof Tiles is Approx $45m2…Roof Area is Approx 280m2 : Cost for Colorbond = $12,600 e/o… less Roof Timber required for Colorbond : (-$4,185) less $3,000 Builders Special Discount = Total Cost e/o $5,415” Thank you so much.
