Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 17, 2013 2:26 pm Hi Guys, My Fiance and I are building our first home with Burbank and have just reached our fixing inspection. Everything has been super awesome, ahead of schedule and problem free! When we saw the kitchen, I noticed one thing off which we didnt catch in the plans (see image below of kitchen during inspection) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3b4PeWiKw8RM1dtelpwNkJjMHc/edit?usp=sharing The space on the right above the fridge is opened and I'm not quite sure what to do with it!! I was wondering if I could get some suggestions and ideas on whether or not we should go with our builder for a variation (which will no doubt incur a fee) or someone outside to put a cabinet or a shelf there? We are sort of stuck because we didnt visualise this far ><. Thanks everyone! Re: Forgot kitchen cabinet. Pay for variations or go outside 2Dec 17, 2013 2:38 pm How much does your contract say variations are. So long as you know the colour of the panels you want to match the rest of your kitchen I would probably just have a local cabinet compay do it after to be honest. Re: Forgot kitchen cabinet. Pay for variations or go outside 3Dec 17, 2013 2:46 pm If you didn't catch it, you've probably got Burbank's amended contract that says you can't raise a variation post contract. If they let you, it will cost you 500 bucks for the privilege. Do it after handover, it will be cheaper. Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Re: Forgot kitchen cabinet. Pay for variations or go outside 4Dec 17, 2013 2:50 pm Metroid How much does your contract say variations are. I think it is as Bluesuede mentioned, $500 for a variation with Burbank. We have the laminex high gloss cabinets. Are they easily accessible by external cabinet makers? Re: Forgot kitchen cabinet. Pay for variations or go outside 6Dec 17, 2013 4:58 pm I would get it done after handover as someone else has said. Re: Forgot kitchen cabinet. Pay for variations or go outside 7Dec 17, 2013 5:13 pm I would send Cutting Edge Kitchens a PM as he is on the forum and always gives true and honest advice. I suspect this is not difficult for a decent cabinet maker to handle.... Good luck. Cheers Re: Forgot kitchen cabinet. Pay for variations or go outside 8Dec 17, 2013 7:09 pm Matching up the laminex shouldn't bee too hard. Also need to find an exact match for the handle. Build thread: here Land Nov 12, Contract 6/07/13, Consent 15/08/13, Start 20/09/13, Slab 25/09/13, Frame 4/10/13, Brick 21/10/13, Roof 2/11/13, Lock-up 17/12/13, Handover 3/3/14 The gap can be adjusted so it's tighter. You can definitely set up corner cabinets to have the same gap as standard doors. 2 13435 It seems very clear to me that your contract states that a security account does NOT need to be established so the answer to the builder is NO. If in doubt find a contract… 1 8471 The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn.
