Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 10, 2013 1:19 am Hi Everyone,
First of all I must say this forum is a wealth of information without which I am sure my house would have suffered. I am almost ready to post my plans that have been in the making for near on 2.75 years. A big false start and complete redesign, hundreds of man hours planning and writing emails (all done remotely from overseas) and we are nearly there. This will definitely be the first and last home...... The budget was well and truly burnt through as I said "stuff it" to everyone and built the house I wanted with finishes I want. As a preview I can share my thoughts on the bathroom and kitchen fit out. Starting with the Kitchen and Scullery I will be having the Franke Planar 8 Sinks with Grohe Minta Taps Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I will be most likely using Neff kitchen appliances (Oven, Micro Combi, Induction Cooktop and Dishwasher) and a Quasair hidden rangehood. The benches will be some sort of granite either 40mm or 60mm. All drawers are Blum soft close. The Fridge will be LG more than likely. Bathrooms and Powder Rooms will be a combination of Villeroy and Boch and Grohe Mixers. Showers as follows: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Every shower will have the rain shower and the hand held Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Basins and mixers are as follows, 600mm in all bathrooms and 500mm in Powder rooms: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The Bathub is as follows: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Not sure whether to keep it all Villeroy and Boch as the tub is some sort of acrylic, my other choice would be this one which is enamel over metal from Kaldewei: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ and the Toilets are this one Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ In the bathrooms the benchtops will be 40mm stone of some sort, not too sure at this stage but leaning towards Granite. Hoping to have floor to ceiling tiles throughout and the showers are all walk-in..... Not sure if I have picked right but I like the designs and I have looked at so many I just want to get on with it. I think that while it may be a little more I have used these products overseas and they really do wear well. Flame on with any thoughts..... Thanks for stopping by and I hope to have the build thread up and running very soon. Cheers Mark Re: Forever Home in WA - Almost Ready for my build thread... 2Dec 10, 2013 8:15 am We wanted your scullery sink in ours, but our builder said no! We don't get it since we are supplying our own ovens. I love what you are getting, your house looks like it will be having the best of the best stuff. P.S welcome and I am following your build! I you got the block? Re: Forever Home in WA - Almost Ready for my build thread... 3Dec 10, 2013 8:21 am Have you looked at V-zug? For your oven and combi? That's what we are getting for the steam combi is one of the best! Quasair does great rangehoods Re: Forever Home in WA - Almost Ready for my build thread... 4Dec 10, 2013 10:50 am Yep I have a block, it will be a knock down and rebuild. I have had the house for a long time and rebuilding was the best choice. I probably wont be getting a steam oven as most of our cooking will be done outside in the alfresco as an area of 3.5M x 5m has been set aside for the outside kitchen. For that I am more than likely going to have a goldstein cooktop, same sink as inside except larger for soaking pots etc. On rangehoods FYI if you are getting an induction cooktop Quasair have just released a new model that handles induction better. They were having issues with drips due to the different way induction generates heat. I hope the build goes smoothly as I have ached over every choice. Cheers Mark Re: Forever Home in WA - Almost Ready for my build thread... 5Dec 13, 2013 4:51 pm Oh your choices look divine. Good luck with your build. I have had the house for a long time and knock down and rebuild was the wisest path. Just arranging demo today and have my prestart booked, although most finishes and options selected. Still need to decide electrical, render and roof tile colours etc. How did you go about doing electrical. Any pitfalls?? Tips for beginners? Cheers Mark Re: Forever Home in WA - Almost Ready for my build thread... 8Dec 13, 2013 7:13 pm Looking good. I've seen your posts in the past, looking forward to seeing the build!! Such a lovely area I have to say I knew nothing about steam ovens till I was at a conference in Melbourne last year. They seem like they can do some amazing things! And the good ones work as a standard oven as well so if you having two ovens I'd look into a steam as the second one Also learnt about self cleaning ovens, some are steam other pyralitic (sp) and from the sounds the steam cleaners can be much better. Re: Forever Home in WA - Almost Ready for my build thread... 9Dec 13, 2013 7:22 pm Hmmmm yes still thinking about the steam oven. My wife is Asian and does steam cooking however I am leaning towards an oven and micro combo as the second oven. My alfresco will more than likely have an oven of some sort as well so I should be sorted. Just gotta get it built. And the build? With the electrical - I used 101 to do all the GPO's ($65 per DGPO was within my budget), and I upgraded to down lights in areas under the 2nd floor or in areas that I knew I wanted them (eg kitchen). Then used Intelligent Home for my network cabling, sound and security systems. I expect that I'll want more lighting upgrades but I'd rather live there for a bit before deciding exactly how I want to light some rooms. Theatre room fit-out is definitely down the track. My tips would be: put DGPO's on internal walls if you aren't sure about how many you want in rooms (easier to add to external walls later) and only upgrade lights thru the builder if you are 100% confident about where you want them (unnecessary expense otherwise). If your budget stretches far enough, put at least two sets of DGPO's in each room, add more at the start, don't be afraid to go nuts. That's one reason we are getting! Pastry and cakes have never tasted or looked so good before. Mock fit up in workshop The end part that juts out is a 1.5m by 1m movable island with bar counter on one side and drawers on the other. Gas Range with custom backsplash. Installed but without appliances yet. GPOs need to be changed too. Other side of the island. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It will look awesome when all the protective plastic is removed. Basically it has a 6 burner range and 711mm oven, xl Dishwasher and 3 door fridge. The marble floor tiles are the same as inside and the cedar on the drawers and doors matches the roof. I have to find the pics of the inside progress...... soon it will be done We hired Darbecca to do every stage inspection, and I strongly recommend them to anyone that asks me. They were amazing. Thorough reports with photos at every stage,… 6 7146 i would not be signing anything on the day read your contract about when builder submits final invoice generally, have to meet builder within 7 days of receiving final… 1 4747 I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15284 |
