Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 09, 2013 9:15 am We are at the final stages of designing our new home, nearly ready to submit the plans to our developer before going to council, however I am concerned that my draftsman and builder are missing my point and haven't resized my garage appropriately. Can anyone out there tell me what size a garage needs to be to park two full size 4wd's in them? At the moment we are 6100 long by 7010 wide (which includes space for a workbench and storage), will that be enough to get a Prado and a Patrol with bullbars and tow bars in? Re: Garage Size Help please! 2Dec 09, 2013 9:23 am I think you probably need to measure the total length of your cars to see if they are going to fit - every bullbar and towbar will be different. It doesn't sound long enough for the cars plus the workbench etc Researching a build in South Australia from Sydney. Re: Garage Size Help please! 3Dec 09, 2013 9:59 am I think what you have designed is the minimum. I would also be looking at the door opening. I would prefer to go for 5.2 instead of the usual 4.8m opener. Also I would prefer the hieght is 2.4 and not 2.1. Regarding the workbench space it depends on what your work bench looks like. I have a garage thats 6meters deep and 7.8 meters wide. I have a deep workbench and a bit of space in front of it. I wish the dept was a bit bigger. Not much say 50cm more. From what you have decribed if you have a clean garage (Note I have seen many of them) then everyhitn will fit perfectly lliek a glove. BUt there isnt much room for additional stuff. Re: Garage Size Help please! 4Dec 09, 2013 10:10 am I think the dimensions should be swtiched so that the 7m is the depth. If you assume that 5m is about the length of the vehicle you would benefit from some extra length. Unless you are putting the work bench at the side not sure you need 7m in width. Measure the cars and see what sort of gap you need between the the two vehicles and the walls. Cheers mark Re: Garage Size Help please! 5Dec 09, 2013 11:50 am We have what I would consider an oversized garage, and we only have a wagon and a sedan. Our dimensions are: 8270 (length) & 6290 (width). I would ask for bigger if I were you, you may be able to fit the cars but it'll be a squeeze getting around them and with doors open, etc. My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: Garage Size Help please! 7Dec 09, 2013 4:57 pm Ours is 7600 x 7500. It is big enough to have 2 x 200 series with a table at the front of the cars. We have a door width of 6100m with an opening height of 2250. Ours is storage for the cars and a bike. No mowers, fridges or similar live there.
