Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 30, 2013 10:37 pm Hi, we are just planning our house and would like to upgrade the internal doors to 28 course doors throughout. Has anyone done this and would it be possible to get a cost for the upgrade so we know what is reasonable. Thanks Happyone123 Happily planning our family home. Re: 28c internal door cost upgrade 2Nov 30, 2013 11:00 pm Its a few hundred per door, I upgraded to 28c and solid core throughout the entire house. Worthwhile if you are going for higher ceilings. cheers mark Re: 28c internal door cost upgrade 3Nov 30, 2013 11:06 pm Thanks Mark, what is a sold core door compared to an ordinary one...why is a sold core door better please? Happyone123 Happily planning our family home. Re: 28c internal door cost upgrade 4Dec 01, 2013 12:51 am The doors that are usually supplied are hollow and do not provide much sound sound insulation. Solid core as the name suggests are solid doors and should be heavier. For me I just wanted the solid doors, when we were at a few display homes and shut the bedroom doors the sound transmission was was very high through the hollow doors. Personal choice at the end of the day and all these little things add up to some crazy numbers...... Good luck Mark Re: 28c internal door cost upgrade 5Dec 01, 2013 7:26 am We paid about $6k to upgrade 20 something doors to 2340 height and solid core. I didn't consider solidness of doors until we moved into our rental prior to building and the doors are like tissue paper, so lightweight and cheap feeling and terrible sound isolation. I can hear my baby mumble in his sleep through closed doors on the other side of the house. Makes doing anything when kids asleep really tricky, not to mention having people over etc. We agonised over the decision but in the end it'll really help change the quality and feel of the house IMO. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: 28c internal door cost upgrade 7Dec 01, 2013 11:46 am EmyN why was the cost so high if I may ask. If anything it should really only be few hundred per door. While the doors and frame do cost more the builder uses less material as the opening is bigger. You summed it up nicely, tissue paper is correct. There are some rooms you really want sound insulation. Cheers Mark Re: 28c internal door cost upgrade 8Dec 01, 2013 2:23 pm That is about $250 (upgrade) per door. We found out the price of the particular door we're getting directly from the supplier and it's about right (presuming the credit is minimal for the cheapo included doors). A lot of money but hopefully worth it in the end. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: 28c internal door cost upgrade 9Dec 01, 2013 2:39 pm It will be totally worth it. Infact I think its the little thinks like that that really make the difference in the level of quality of the final home which you will live in.... Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7920 Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5402 3 10197 |
