Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 26, 2013 12:17 am Hey Guys, Im new to this forum but thought i'd see if anyone else is building in SA with Simonds Homes My partner and i have purchased land in Angle Vale, our block size is 1875sqm and have just signed off on our floor plans to build the two story house called Cleo. Its our first home & of course first build so will be looking at this site to keep sane and to get tips and ideas etc. Looking forward to meeting new people and following others forums Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 2Nov 26, 2013 7:55 am Hi & welcome! Quite a few of us are at the moment... There's a Leon being built & another Sierra going up as well. We are building the Sierra at Mount Barker. We just fell in love with Simonds after wandering out to Blakeview one day, Haydn was just the best help and completely won us over. We are just waiting on land settlement in a few months time, but have done all our selections etc. Looking forward to seeing & hearing about your build!! Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 3Nov 26, 2013 8:59 am Not building with Simonds but we're building in SA so I'll be looking out for your updates Good luck with it all! We were the same we looked everywhere then fell in love with the bentley at Blake's crossing then got carried away and upgraded to the Cleo! Haha We are up to selections at the moment so our next appointment should be a fun overload. How did you go with selections? From what I've seen there standards are pretty high quality. Nice to meet you both Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 5Nov 26, 2013 9:41 am He was just the best! Honestly, after meeting some consultants, I was getting pretty disheartened… just when we thought we kind of knew what we were doing with a custom plan, we happened to go out to Blakeview on a whim and BAM! It all changed. You are quite welcome to read our sad, sorry tale on our build thread! haha But being where we are now, we couldn’t be happier and are just thrilled with how Simonds have treated us. You will LOVE selections, Trish is just lovely. We did upgrade a lot, but we did a lot of that with Haydn in the initial estimate, so there wasn’t a lot to upgrade come selections day. But you’re right, their standard stuff is lovely. Like taps, basins, baths, toilets etc, all really quality. That $50k of upgrades offer certainly assisted too! The Bentley at Blakes Crossing is a lovely home, so I have no doubt the Cleo will be fantastic. Nice to meet you too! We all tend to get very excited and encourage each other during our builds, it’s a great, supportive environment this place Ally Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 6Nov 26, 2013 11:19 am I was the same, we got sick of having old grumpy guys trying to pull the wool over our eyes when my partner made it pretty clear he is also in the building industry. Haydn has been great and helped us out in so many ways already. The extra $50k was defiantly a bonus & I'm sure we'll be upgrading a bit to at our selections appointment Ill def have a look at your posts to, so glad I found this site as being first time it all gets very daunting. Look forward to hearing everyone's experiences with building!! Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 7Nov 26, 2013 3:36 pm Oh yeah! Some of them were so vague and would tell you anything to get your signature on a bit of paper… We had one who was a lovely guy, but when we asked questions he’d say “yeah, yeah – no worries” “That’s no problems”. Then when it came to the crunch he was like “What? That… oh no we can’t do THAT”. And he kept forgetting stuff and I just lost faith with the whole thing. I had built a home with this particular before, about 9 years ago – my first house as a 19 year old. I’d had some dramas with them then, but thought maybe part of it was due to me being so young, inexperienced and on such a tight budget that it made things a little daunting and dis-pleasurable back then. But no, soon enough the same old stuff I’d experienced then was slowly re-appearing… even though this sales guy assured me that the company had made changes since then…. Errr no. So we both didn’t feel comfortable and decided to pull out and keep searching, got close with a few others, then settled with Simonds, BEST move we ever made. We had a bit of a credit for the gallery to use when we got there… a few things were adjusted for our energy assessment and a travel cost charge, but it wound up in a $2,850 gallery “voucher” that we could use at selections. So as a “use it or lose it” thing, we had a bit of fun spending it! I think from memory with it we upgraded the oven, a higher category ceaserstone, outside lights, the tri lock door handle, cupboard handles, shower heads and the front door. As I said, the rest was already pre-shopped and in the costing, it was so good having access to the gallery before signing, so we could work out what stuff we wanted in. Trish is really helpful, and so was the lady at Beaumont’s as well… tiles were freaking me out and I was having trouble deciding, but on the day it all came together and I was so thrilled with the options I had and I LOVE the splashback suggestion she gave me, exactly what I was trying to describe to her that I wanted. ANYWAY! enough of my rabbiting on! So much to share on here and lots to follow! Can’t wait to see your choices, plans etc. Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 8Nov 27, 2013 11:06 pm Oh i cant wait for selections, ive written a big list of stupid questions to ask Haydn which my partner (who works away 3 on 1 off) laughs at me and tries to make me promise not to ask him hahaha! Haydn is so patient with answering my silly questions. And how good is the follow your build online site? i love that idea. Our budget just keeps getting more and more stretched out at the moment so im hoping after selections we wont be up for to much more. I dont think we have any "credit" but that would have been good to walk in with but hey the house alone is already costing us over $300,000 so whats a few more grand. Definatly going to have a read through your blog, this website is so interesting and time consuming. How do i upload photos on here? So settlement on your land isnt for a few months? I work in a bank and the whole loan structure and land settlement still does my head in, haha. Our land is meant to settle beginning of January then build should commence Feb-March and i cant wait to walk into our completed house. Looking forward to seeing everyones colour choices etc Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 9Nov 27, 2013 11:18 pm Welcome dannimick! Look forward to following your build too. Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 18Dec 14, 2013 5:59 pm Thankyou We are so excited to get started but because my partner works away three weeks on one week home things are taking much longer to organise due to working around his work schedual. How are u finding the build with simonds? I have had a quick read through your story and think u are pretty close to where we are building Yes im hoping its big as we have a big block, i asked Haydn last time i was there if our house was going to be small and he almost fell off his chair hahaa.. think i need to organise a cleaner once building is complete x Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 19Dec 16, 2013 6:28 pm We are building in Munno Para West in the new PlayFord area. That sucks that he works away, once the site work starts it will go super quick I have looked at your Cleo floor plan and if its anything like the Bentley it will be HUGE lol. Re: Building With Simonds Homes in SA 20Dec 16, 2013 10:10 pm Welcome and congrats. I am laughing about the cleaner, that is what everyone said we would need when we built our house as it is so big. So far we aren't doing too bad. If we fall behind in the cleaning we just invite someone over for lunch/dinner and that gets us in the cleaning groove. Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 47463 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
